Aching and joint pain

I am 70, and in the last few months I have had aching joints and pins and needles, especially when I lay down also a lot of the time my feet feel like they are burning. My doctor thinks it might be long Covid, but I think it’s all too easy to blame things on Covid so I have had some blood tests and scans, but everything apparently is normal 🤷‍♀️

My symptoms are the same as yours Shinamae! I'm 67 and have had blood tests which show nothing. I have been wondering if it's long covid or old age!

My DH also has these symptoms plus dizzy spells. He was listening to something on the radio the other day discussing this very thing and suggesting it could be long Covid

It seems that these symptoms are quite common at the moment.

Also, after years of having bad hay fever, he hasn't had any symptoms this year.

I’m. 77 and, according to my doctor, am “riddled with arthritis”. I do find that turmeric and black pepper tablets help a lot, especially with the pain and swelling in my hands. I first checked with my pharmacist that taking it wouldn’t interfere with any of my other medication. It takes a while to start working, but does help a lot.

I am afflicted with burning feet at night, preventing sleep. This comes and goes. A doctor prescribed amytriptiline saying he didn't know why it worked. It causes extremely dry mouth though.I have advanced osteoarthritis now developing from a drastic ankle operation 30 years ago. Lopsided mobility causes one thing to lead to another. I am 86. When the second ankle went , I had to give up driving six years ago. I had the right knee replaced twice. Now the left is going. The upshot is going to be a stairlift for safety. Went from using trek poles for years, but now need a wheeled walking aid. I take the maximum dose of tramadol andam now so accustomed to it it is less effective Herbal remedies have no effect on this sort of arthritis. If I end up on the floor for any reason, getting up is extremely difficult.I gave up sewing because of arthritis developing in my hands. Can't really thread a needle. BE WARNED. THINGS GET WORSE!

I was hit suddenly with arthritis few years ago. I thought I was overworking I got days when I was in so much pain I couldn’t hardly move. After a visit to dr he through it could be arthritis and after a few visits and X-ray at hospital I’ve OA I was 53 at the time now 59 take loads of medicine and still get my bad days but no longer work that’s the downside

My daughter has got me on CBD oil, and it’s amazing. If you try it, do go to a specialist shop, not a well known high st chain as it’s not as pure.

Although a bit of stiffness and joint pain are part of the joys of increasing age, any sudden onset of pain, especially with feeling tired or generally out of sorts is a 'red flag' indicator that you should see your GP.
It may be nothing serious, but the symptoms might indicate illness which requires urgent attention.
I have just been through the same thing, battled on regardless for over a year, and have now been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I feel a bit of a fool for not getting checked earlier.
Obviously, things like this are best treated sooner rather than later.

Well, I think you may have crossed that rubicon where your body is starting the physiological decline. Welcome to the club!

Could be arthritis which seemed to sprout up overnight for me. Could be other ailments. Yes, see a Dr and have it checked.

I have pain in the heel of my right hand which goes up into my thumb. I find gripping anything painful and my wrist is stiff. I take paracetamol and wear a compression glove which seems to help. Oh the joys of old age.

boobydog, could it be carpal tunnel syndrone? Those were my symptons. I eventually needed an op.

I have weird aches and pains (71) now and them but most times I can figure out what I've done or not done and sort it out. Sometimes with a pain relief but I try not to use that if I can because I like to leave it for when I might really need them.

mousemac I have always loved Heinz Baked Beans but they have suddenly started giving me some unfortunate side effects do I have had to limit my intake a lot. I was not aware that we can suddenly acquire food sensitivities but I am now I've eaten them in fairly large quantities for many years sometimes straight from the tin, cant do that anymore.

Please make an appointment with your doctor and don't try any do it yourself remedies.

Your aches and pains are probably due to ageing but that does not mean you just have to put up with them.

They probably are not serious - have you enough heating on in your home, but might be some form of rheumatism or something similar which can be alleviated if not completely cured.

They may just be the after-effects of flu, but consult your doctor.

Do you go walking ..in grass, bracken etc? Just a slight possibility its Lymes Disease? Ask GP for a check, just in case

Ohh, Lyme Disease… I forgot about that. For sure do have THAT checked.

My niece got it (unbeknownst to her) it went unchecked (for a while) and suffered for YEARS after she originally came down with it. Lyme D has to be treated early on-set! Now all is good.

I took turmeric but unfortunately it gave me awful stomach cramps and very urgent bowel movements so had to stop! I too get the burning feet and have had multiple tests including for myeloma but all negative - GP gave me Amitriptyline which helps a little.

I used to take Tumerick but it made my bowels loose so I left off it for about six months. Started it two weeks ago and getting the same reaction so going to stop it again..🤷‍♀️

I had joint and muscle pain and my bones ached for many years. Turned out to be benign tumour on parathyroid which affected calcium in the blood. Suggest you get this checked.

Aged 55 and the leg/hip pain so awful, increasingly so, which led to an appointment with a physio a couple of weeks ago. Last year, I thought it was a menopause symptom and had started HRT (which stopped the itchy skin, not sure if memory better though ) but the leg, bone, muscle pain only eased on a hot weather holiday during our winter or when in a very hot bath. I hadn't noticed the deterioration but in hindsight I do. During physio assessment it was so obvious there's a big weakness on one side and left appointment armed with strengthening exercises and referral for hip replacement. Every step hurts, every physio exercise hurts but know I have to strengthen the muscles. Have vit d tablets (work nights so sleep during sun) cod liver, pain killers to help sleep, and multi vitamins but will now add tumeric after seeing so many mentions. Have just bought a Tens machine, not used, it's on charge. Didn't know about it but saw it on a medical site on what to do about the pain while waiting for replacement. I do elevate my leg with a pillow underneath or sit with my leg up. Feels better.

I am early 50s and have just been diagnosed with arthritis in both knees and an inflamed hip. Been in agony for many years. Started physio on Tuesday, have daily exercises and walking to do. Allergic to lots of painkillers so have to be careful.

I feel so sorry for everyone on here who is in pain. I have friends who are the same and there is nothing you can do to help.

Generally I am very well but I did have dreadful sciatica once which lasted 5 months and made me so miserable. I also tore my meniscus a few years ago which took ages to heal and that severely restricted me too.

I am grateful every morning when I wake up and feel OK.

I have some arthritic joints (hand and knees) and have been taking turmeric capsules for quite a while which does help with the pain. For the last couple of years I had been suffering with muscle pain - sometimes in all parts of my body - until someone told me that statins can cause this. I read the leaflet that comes with the pills and sure enough 10% of people suffer in this way. I saw the doctor who said I should try not taking the statins. Now, after 2 months, I don't have the muscle pain and generally feel much better (except for the arthritis, of course). In a while I will have a cholesterol test to make sure that my level is ok. Meanwhile, I have ditched the statins having reported back to the doctor.

Look up “burning feet syndrome” there are several causes, but vitamin B12 injections cured my pins and needles and burning feet. My feet were cold to touch, but felt as though the were boiling hot.

I am nearly 72 and being a polio’ survivor from the 50s I can tell you that you get used to pain in some measure. I know people who have recently developed OA and aren’t doing as well as I am with their mobility even though I have OA , scoliosis, and some paralysis. Keep as active as you can and off the painkillers where possible. Don’t be tempered to use walking aids if you can avoid it. I’ve recently discovered a pain killing spray which helps.Also avoid alcohol. It doesn’t help and can make things worse. Good luck! X

Same for me, ache in back and hip joint. X-ray shows moderate arthritic changes in lower spine and hip. I take Boswelia and also drink turmeric tea and try to cook with Turmeric as much as possible. Yoga helps and exercise, even just walking helps.
This has all come about in the last 18 months, it could be long Covid, it could be vaccines, difficult to say. It could just be wear and tear, but the timing is curious being mingled with Covid and vaccines. Previously, I was a regular and supple yoga follower, now I’m too stiff to do some of the postures. The best thing I have found is warm sunshine, it really helps the pain to dissipate.

I was speaking to a friend yesterday who gets cramp. She told me that she puts a small amount of table salt on her tongue and it works. It may be worth a try.
