Blepharitis or MGD or allergy

I’m a frequent visitor to the eye clinic as I have regular injections for AMD and have recently had a cataract op. A couple of years ago I couldn’t have the injection because of red itchy eyelids. Consultant told me to wash my eyes with baby shampoo, rinse well and Pat dry with clean tissue. No drops or blepharitis wipes. Since then I’ve followed my usual makeup removal regime with a baby shampoo wash, I prefer Aveeno Baby hair and body wash because it’s very gentle and not highly scented. I’ve never had any problems with itchy,watery, dry eyes since.

I was suffering from very red eyes with crusted eyelids Blepharitis diagnosed by optician and told to use preservative free eyelid wipes, and Thealoz Duo gel eye drops which I get on prescription I buy the eye wipes from Amazon and use them first thing every morning haven’t had an episode since .
I did clear the Blepharitis up in the first instance by bathing my eyes with warm water with bicarbonate of soda also recommended by my optician

I have dry eye but for me it means streaming eyes whilst outside. The skin around my eyes gets sore and I find calendula cream effective. If I get a very sore patch I carefully put on Sudocrem which works well.

I’ve just had a minor operation on my left eye whereby a small piece of skin on the inside of my eye has been cut out to give more room for that streaming eye to go inwards instead of dripping down my face. It has been very successful. I’m waiting for the other eye to be done. The procedure takes 20 mins.

I had the same, during a difficult time in my life. The Dermatologist said it was dry skin caused by my tears. Seriously, that’s what he said. Anyway, he prescribed a mild steroid cream and suggested I moisturise well, daily. He prescribed Diprobase which I use till this day. Years of itching etc has left dark circles. I use spectacles, so I don’t worry too much ….. hope this has been of some help

I have exceptionally dry eyes and use Evolve eyedrops..

PS His arguement was that warmth and massage treat the cause of the problem whereas eye drops are only treating the symptoms.

One of my eyelids (the right one) gets slight eczema if I eat even a small helping of natural yogurt (Yeo Valley Greek Style) every day for a longish period. If I stop eating the yogurt it gets better.

I've never been much of an eater of yogurt but found I liked a bit of the particular one I mentioned above with a piece of cake after work. Thought the yogurt might be good for my guts but they seem fine without it.

For dry eye I press cotton make-up pads that have been in warm water (so basically a DIY heat pad) to my eyelids each morning and massage a little. This was suggested by my optician. It works. I've had no dry eye problem since he suggested it about 15 months ago. He also informed me about microwavable heat pads but I preferred to see if the DIY technique worked first. It did.

When my eye was sore recently I put some HC45 on the lids. The pharmacist told me to just bathe. them in water but that wasn’t going to do anything. The skin on my eyelids is getting increasingly dry and flaky. I wear make up very rarely these days because of it. I do use Lacri Lube occasionally but it tends to make my eyes blurry the following day.

I have Sjorgren’s, along with other auto immune conditions. Specialists, like opticians often are helpful with diagnosis of these conditions that go hand in hand.

I have both Blepharitis and Dry Eye Syndrome. My optician diagnosed but also suggested I see my GP because Sjogren's was suspected.

GP was happy to prescribe the Blephasol Lotion and Hylo Forte drops which I'd originally bought from the optician, and I also use an eye mask which I heat in the microwave. The Blephasol Lotion is very soothing, and I use it 2-3 times a day, plus the drops as necessary. The high pollen count at the moment isn't helping.

I just dab some Oil Olay Lotion for Sensitive Skin round my eyes after I've used the heated eye mask.

I had blepheritis and dry eyes. Dr px carbomer eye gel, found it to be much better than drops, and now only use it, usually, twice daily. Eye wipes also help, especially in morning, more soothing than water,for me anyway. Boots for them, but amazon stock both.
Yes another trip to Dr's may be advised though. Hope you get it sorted as its very uncomfortable for table, and can be debilitating.

When I get dry scaley skin round my eyes I use hydro tears dual that treats allergies as well. I also take anti histamines and it clears

I’ve suffered dry eye irritation for many years and have used various eye drops with varying results. Optician diagnosed blephoritis and blocked glands and sold me some not cheap lotion which made things worse together with massage and placing a hot flannel over my eyes.

I’d always thought it was down to some allergy and I made an extra special effort to try and trace what was causing the discomfort. It was a bit hit and miss but I now use a different combination of cleanser and moisturiser combined with always wearing my glasses outdoors to protect against the wind/pollution/dust. Fingers crossed, things are very much better and on the rare occasions my eyes are itchy I spray with Tesco eye spray which is cheaper than other eye sprays.

MGD is Meibonium Gland Dysfunction, which can mean either the glands aren’t producing enough oil or the glands are blocked so the oil isn’t reaching the eye. This happened to me, applying a heat pad followed by gentle cleaning to clear the glands worked.

Horti I do not understand what MGD is. Do you mean Macular Degeneration? If so you need that to be diagnosed and treated if it is the "wet" type.

I have Blepharitis and Dry Macular and I have been told that washing my eyes frequently with warm water is sufficient. I do use drops but they are for my specific condition as I am taking part in an eye trial.

I suffered with eczema on my eyelids and I to my eyebrows for a good 9 months. I tried everything I could think of to ease it, vaseline, hydromol ointment, aveeno, but nothing worked. I finally consulted my GP and he prescribed a very mild steroid cream with strict instructions on how to use it since eyelids skin is the thinnest on your body. He said if that didn't work then he would prescribe something for a fungal infection. I have applied it as instructed and at last no more flaky itchy skin.
