Had a steroid inject ion into my shoulder on Thursday. Doctor did tell me pros and cons, and left it to me to make decision. I went with it. Had one these several years ago which was a great help. My rotor cuff is damaged and this causes me problems.

Fine for the first 24 hours but s ince then I have stiffness in my neck on that right hand side, and also tiredness. Sure it is the effect of this injection and am wondering if I did make the correct decision (bit late now).

I think it takes a while to have a true effect. Hang in there and let your doctor know if it doesn't improve.

I’ve had two steroid injections for a shoulder problem. The first one did nada, the second was by guided ultrasound. It was sore for 48hrs and then it was miraculous! I felt 20 years younger all over, not just my shoulder.

This happened to me too. First injection into shoulder was successful. Second time my GP did it and had stiff neck for about a week then it wore off and didn't help shoulder. Dont think it's anything too serious but I would advise Dr if it doesn't get better after a few dys. Hope it feels better soon.

I've had steroid injections in my heel (Plantar Fasciitis) as well as my shoulder (like you, Rotar cuff injury). Both times, the pain and stiffness was worse for a day or 2 afterwards, then worked very well.

I was told to keep moving my knee when I had a steroid injection in it.

I had guided ultrasound steroid injection for my shoulder 5yrs ago. Pain was bad for about 48hrs and since then perfect. I have a friend whose doctor does it for her and she is in agony despite having two injections in 4 months.

Has anyone experienced hair loss after a steroid injection?

I was in agony a few hours after a steroid injection into my shoulder. It felt heavy, tired and very painful. A few days later the pain subsided, and symptoms of my rotator cuff sorted itself out. For my other shoulder I was referred to a physiotherapist who started me on a few sessions of electromagnetic therapy. It works to stimulate blood flow to the area and reduce inflammation. After the 2nd session I started to notice results. After the last session it had improved greatly and another 2 or 3 weeks later it was finally back to normal and pain free.

I was told to expect pain for at least two days, if not more, when having a steroid injection to help my shoulder

I had minimal pain but a great result - for once I was lucky!

My point is that pain for this procedure is not unexpected. If it should continue for more than a week I may query the process with my GP.

It's worth doing - shoulder pain is so debilitating.

Hope that you feel better soon!

Also, we should rest the area that was injected for a couple of days

Oh!
I was told by the person who did the injection to keep moving my knee after a steroid injection.

Ah- I should have said - this was hands I was advised not to drive. Unfortunately, the advice came after several injections and I’d driven 15 miles to the clinic😵‍💫

Knees - I had an injury, walking hurt. The consultant advised knee joints are meant to be used. If we stop using them, they seize up.

Honestly - older age, not for softies

Old age doesn't come on its own!

I thought my knees might feel better after a morning's gardening but alas, they feel worse and have seized up.

😯 How did you get home Iam64?

Iam64 Sun 02-Jul-23 21:02:22

I drove of course I did. This was the centre of excellence for rheumatoid arthritis. That and another equally daft experience had me move to the small department in mt home town. The same good consultant, my named specialist nurse and 3 miles from home.

Callistemon21 Sun 02-Jul-23 21:05:27

Oh, I wish I could do that!!

Had one steroid injection for a rotator cuff injury. Didn't have much effect. Alternative of surgery carried a lot of risk of adhesions so I learned to live with it having private physio for a year did help but I still can't throw my arm up in the air. Steroids can have various affects on you but are short lived. Do you have hayfever as that could be the cause of tiredness.

Tell me about it. I seize up after sitting down for fifteen minutes. And can’t stand up without saying ‘ooh’…

Ive had two steroid injections in an arthritic knee done by my GP. I felt no pain and the condition improved considerably within 2 days. I have never had any more trouble in that knee but now the other has flared up. I think much depends whether one is nervous of injections which obviously makes the subject tense up as the needle emters the muscle.

Many thanks to everyone for their messages. The stiff neck, with pain going right up past my ear into my head on the right hand side, wad relly abd oin Friday. The tiredness meant that I was unable to go more than two hours without just flling asleep. I was pretty sure it had to be a reaction to the injection, but just a little nagging worry that it was not. Decided to give myself the weekend and if no better on Monday then I would contact the hospital.

However it did gradually improve as the weekend went by, sleepiness lasted until yesterday afternoon.

By this morning it has all passed, AND....there i a definite improved in the mobility of that shoulder.

However, do not think I will ever repeat this treatment.

I had steroid injections in that shoulder twice in the long distant past, also one in my hip nevefr had any bad reactions previously. Perhaps it is as my body is so much older now, this reaction is so much stronger, particularly the requirement to spend so much time asleep.

Normally, I find I need to have a short sleep (about 30 - 45 minutes), after I have eaten as if my body needs me to be asleep so it can get on with job of digestion!!!

The only 'bad' steroid injections I had was about twelve hears ago into my thumbs, Painful as they were being done, very painful afterwards for about three days, pain slowly subsided and thumbs exactly as they had been prior to those injections.
