Anyone got this horrible germ. I started to feel bad M well last Tuesday. Haven’t eaten a proper meal since then. Anti biotic or not?

Nobody here can tell you whether an antibiotic is appropriate. You need to speak to your doctor.

In the meantime have lots to drink and all the usual home remedies. Hope you feel better soon. flowers

I am at present recovering from this. I have had it for over a week with extreme pain and swollen gland. It is now beginning to get better. I went to the doctors who reassured me it was viral so no antibiotics.
Best to go to the doctor and check it out.

Yes I’ve had it for a few days now. Very tickly throat but very sore when I cough.
Honey and lemon warm drinks help a bit.

I've had it for a couple of weeks. GP took a swab which ruled out infection and checked me over to rule out anything sinister. He said it's a virus that's doing the rounds. He told me that because people are mingling it might seem to last for weeks but it's probably just being passed around so you can catch it again and suffer for seemingly ages. I can be better for a while and then it starts again. The weird weather doesn't help.
GP recommended paracetamol and ibuprofen.

OP should go to their GP.

Same here and when the sore throat subsided it turned into a hacking cough. I arranged a call back from the surgery but got a nurse rather than a GP. She said it was viral so no antibiotics and gave me a lecture on healthy eating 😡 I tried to tell her I have an allotment, cook all my meals from scratch and used to teach Food and Nutrition at secondary school but I couldn’t get a word in - she was on a roll and seemed to be a particular fan of blueberries 😂

Of course she was right about the ABs but I was feeling so rough at the time I couldn’t help thinking back to the good old days of an actual visit from a doctor.
Even Brother Cadfael turning up at the back door with a hessian bag full of herbs would have been welcome! 😂

Thx for all ur advice. Too much hassle to phone dr. I don’t need anti biotic if it’s a virus. Need to try and eat even I don’t feel like it as feeling weak and wobbly legs!

weak and wobbly legs!

That’s what really floored me. I did manage to chuck a couple of chicken thighs and some frozen casserole veg in the slow cooker and make enough soup to keep me going for a couple of days.

They don’t call it Jewish penicillin for nothing! 😂

Apparently because of lockdowns, our body's immune systems are low as we have not been exposed to as many viruses as we usually are therefor when we catch something it is a lot worse than if we had some immunity. I guess immunity will build up again in time. I too have had worse colds, coughs, sore throats than usual.

Rest, lots of soothing warm fluids, and paracetamol/ibuprofen, OP - I do hope you feel miles better soon.

Back in February I eventually went to the GP with a really horrible bug (throat, cough and drenching night sweats) I’d had for over 10 days - only because of urging by a worried dd.

As I’d fully expected, he dismissed it fairly airily as a virus, no swab.
That same evening I was hit like an express train with pneumonia, but thankfully only on one side. Hospital hit it at once with 2 different ABs, and it did improve fairly quickly.

I had tested myself for COVID 3 times, all negative, but in hospital they said I’d got it. I still think I had a nasty bug with COVID on top - I’d had covid before it it was absolutely nothing like whatever that bug was.

what part of the country do sufferers live? I am in London but am not aware of anything going around.

I am in the East Midlands.

If you’re ok with aspirin gargling with dispersible aspirin is soothing. My doctor taught me that years ago.
