Long story apologies.
June of this year my aunt took ill whilst on holiday with daughter in Spain.
She was in ICU for over week .
It was thought that she had inhaled some poison to hat had been sprayed on complex for cockroach outbreak.
Her lungs had filled with fluid.
She managed to fly home after discharge.
However after few days she ended up in hospital on respiratory ward.
Eventually diagnosed with bad case of bacterial infection causing pneumonia.
She had been hospital for almost 3 weeks and then discharged back home last week.
But she has had no aftercare.
Still on antibiotics now oral whereas in hospital were via IV .
She is struggling with her breathing.
Cough is no better and although on anti nausea meds struggling to eat.
Her daughter has pleaded for doctor to come out and eventually one coming early this evening. 🤞
Probably asking for the moon,
but does any Scottish grans know/ understand how elderly discharge works?
The only help offered so far is key safe and pendent alarm , which I had already suggested .
When my father living in England was discharged from hospital he was entitled to respite care.
My cousin at my suggestion has spoken to Social worker in hospital and requested OT and physio visits as her mum is so weak.
Nothing so far.
I have suggested for her to point out that before this illness , her mum was perfectly capable independent woman. Managing well even with heart condition and a breast cancer survivor.
Nobody seems to want to converse with other departments ( GP, hospital consultant, cardio, respiratory , social worker etc etc )
The best they have been offered is another chest x-ray in 6 weeks time.
Any advise welcome .
