Ibuprofen - strange reaction

JackyB - you're right, Voltarol is the trade name for diclofenac gel (in the UK). And you can buy ibuprofen gel.
They are very effective and NICE recommends them for pain relief. However, that if for a local problem.
So if Kitty said her knee or shoulder was aching it would be a very good solution - but it would be both ineffective and possibly risking an overdose to rub all over for general aches!
Kitty - I would try paracetamol next time, to see if it works.

I have often found different drugs affecting my dreams. Antibiotics cause nightmares and Bach flowers gave me really strange dreams, which weren't nightmares, but very strange situations, and very clear, so that I can remember them even now.

Last night I hadn't taken anything but I had a nice dream - I dreamt I went on a date with Andrew Hunter-Murray! Mind you, I was listening to a podcast with him in at the time!

I obviously didn't explain properly.

I don't take ibuprofen regularly probably about once a month and I'm not in pain generally. We have been putting the house to rights after having some work done and I was just aching in a general 74 year old way.

For aching muscles I would have thought diclophynac (sp?) - e.g. Voltarol would be more appropriate. Either as a tablet or to rub in.

(I think Voltearol is the proprietary name in the UK - it's different here)

Are you sure it is the ibuprofen? You have probably tried not tking it for a week or so to see if it makes a difference. If not, I would, as pain can give you bad or strange dreams.
Certainly try paracetamol - I find it perfectly effective at night, and save ibuprofen for daytime.

Another recommending paracetamol. I used to find aspirin (Disprin) great for all kinds of aches, but now I'm an anticoagulant I'm not allowed aspirin or other anti-inflammatories. I've found paracetamol works pretty well with no side effects.

Ibruprofen can conflict with other drugs, I can only take Paracetamol.

My doctor doesn’t recommend ibuprofen for the over 70’s. I take paracetamol and I find that works as I get lots of aches and pains from the medicine I take. One of my meds also gives me vivid dreams - the beta blocker I think.

That might work generally, Ash, but I wanted general relief - all my bits ache after sorting the house.

That sounds horrid, kittylester. Would using ibuprofen gel be a solution for you? That should give you the benefit of the anti inflammatory without the unpleasant side effects and would be kinder to your stomach, too. Of course, that would only work if you’re able to reach the achy muscle!
