I have them every couple of years, so I am something of an old hand.
The routine where I am is that a nurse checks your weight etc and then you are passed to the person doing the procedure to sign the consent form. I ask the nurse to put in the notes that I want the maximum sedation for my body, and that is what I am consenting to.
This is because once I was given far less, and was awake throughout. As I have a strong gag reflex it was very unpleasant. Now that I ask specifically I have had the right dose (last time it was three units (can’t remember what measurement they use) but the consultant promised that if I needed more she would give it.
With proper sedation you will be fine, Sallywally. It’s over quickly, and you will know nothing about it. Try not to worry.
