Latest virus...be cautious when out and about!

Last week I was visiting my DD and family; the little one came home from school feeling tired and was warm. Poor little fellow developed a high fever which stayed for two days, but quickly recovered in time for Halloween. Then DD fell ill and spent two days in bed. She was so upset to be ill when I was visiting, but I assured her I was glad to be of help, and was on had for soup making and cold cloth dispatch.

I came home with fingers crossed, but developed the same. DD had tested both herself and son, but were negative for covid, so I didn't bother to test myself.

My goodness, I was laid out for 3 days, High fever and tired, with achy kidneys and a bit of a heat rash on my back. Not so much nasal, but I developed a cough, but not bad. I took extra time off work plus had the weekend to recover. I did return to work Monday, but am wearing a mask to prevent spread, although I'm not sure how long I am contagious.

Luckily my DH was away at the same time, but back now. We are able to stay separate in the house for a few more days.

Be careful when you are out, and perhaps get masks handy if you are in close company of others. I have not yet had my yearly flu shot, so perhaps this was it. I realize that we may not have the same viruses going around here as in UK, but it is flu season, and Covid is still making rounds.

I tested positive yesterday after my booster vaccination six weeks ago. I’ve never felt so ill in my life and still feel rough.

Out of interest Biscuitmuncher, if you were diagnosed as being immunosuppressed, would you still not have the immunisations?

As you havent replied, it seems like you would do,

A lot of people on this site are reasonably elderly from what I can gather.

I think it is a different thing to be talking with 70 year olds to 20 year olds.

Biscuitmuncher sorry to disappoint, I always carried spares.

Great riposte!

I think goady posts are just that - goady. Anyone not wearing a mask here would have copped huge fines and if you didn’t get vaccinated you weren’t allowed into cafes, restaurants or any public places. You had to actually show your certificates. Good job they lived under a rock, isn’t it ?

*Very very rude * Biscuitmuncher* and very much against the spirit and ethics of GN.
I shan’t bother to report your post. You know you are out of order.

I agree, but prefer to to let others see this post for what it is.

I see (as usual) you rarely answer any of the questions asked of you Biscuitmuncher.
As Monica has already asked, what would you do if you were immunocompromised?
Would you do everything possible to protect yourself?

Monica, thank you of thinking of others, by wearing a mask.

M0nica oh I bet that's lovely and healthy wearing a wet mask

I've never worn a mask. I think they compromise your immunity

The reason I wear a mask is because I sneeze a lot and the aerosol from that can travel a long distance

On what evidence did you base your decision?

We've had new flu and covid jabs and mask up in public.

Biscuitmuncher Sun 12-Nov-23 14:07:34

Germanshepherdsmum no flu jab either

henetha Sun 12-Nov-23 10:50:40

I prefer to believe the scientists and have every jab offered.
I've had covid once, mildly.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 12-Nov-23 10:45:49

I have had both flu and covid jabs. I can’t afford not to. The protection afforded by a covid jab wanes over time, hence boosters are needed - which are also geared to new variants.

Deedaa do they wear them all the time or just when working

Biscuitmuncher is a frequent anti vax, anti mask poster, who never offers any scientific evidence to prove her point.
I suspect she likes to wind up posters. 😔

Primrose53 Sun 12-Nov-23 09:26:47

I got the flu jab but not the covid one this time. I am not an anti vaxer just don’t want any more covid jabs.

Germanshepherdsmum no I didn't get the vaccine, neither did my children
The best decision we ever made

I don’t suppose you have flu jabs either?

M0nica Sun 12-Nov-23 08:56:52

Masks give little protection from infection unless they are full hospital grade masks.

Chinese and Japanese people wear masks to protect their lungs from air pollution, not infection, which is a different thing altogether, and there masks are effective protection.

I cut down on buying loose veg, and a loose individual cake.

I think all shops and public places should install air purifiers. Now that the weather is colder and doors are kept closed, toxins and viruses build up. It is just common sense, really.

That sounds like a good idea. Not that I know much about such things.

If I go into our supermarket at 10pm, the smell of body odour in the air is quite pungent.

Jennajim Sun 12-Nov-23 07:40:30

Also using sanatizer when out and about,,and hand washing when you get home.

Biscuitmuncher do you think all surgeons and dentists have compromised immune systems as they spend their working lives in masks? Have you got evidence or is this just "I think"?

GS1 was quite ill for a couple of days last week. Just stayed in bed with a headache and temperature.
