You could also try the U3A on-line zoom activities if you have problems getting out.. and Meetup and Action For Happiness also have many events on-line and in person..
Hello and welcome. Lovely to hear that you have rescue pets. I’m sorry to hear about your health problems but I watch a good comedy on telly when I want cheering up. I love Billy Conelly!
Plus they have so many they don’t get snapped up immediately there’s some poor souls been with them months/years xx
Have you looked at Many Tears with fosterers all over the country ? As far as I am aware they don’t put barriers up because of age. Mine came from there and cannot rate them high enough. Some very deserving souls xx
Hi ceejayjay, yes I've tried but for rescues here I'm too old [74, yet fit, active, no real health problem at all]. And they usually have large dogs and/or ones with behavioural problems, if small ones come in they're gone in no time.
Tried rehoming from private homes but no luck. Can only search the local area though and rare that an old quiet dog comes up.
I used to breed canaries but none of them around either!
Hi Bluebird
Could you adopt a rescue ? It’s so very rewarding xx
Me too. Often don't speak to anyone for days at a time. Usually ok with it and usually my choice but sometimes I just want a chat and a laugh with someone.
No pets here for a number of reasons [looking for an older quiet dog but with no luck] which saddens me. I'm glad you have your cats and dog, and all with many years in front of them.
I wish you a lot of contentment in your new home. Mine gives me such pleasure and peace.
Aww Thankyou for all the lovely comments.
I’ve 2 rescue cats 5 & 6 years old & a rescue dog 4 years old.
Most of the time I’m content with my own company (I’ve had to be) but sometimes I feel a little bit lonely that’s all. I’m feeling better already thankyou all xxxx
Welcome, ceejayjay. I’m glad you are happy in your new home. It helps to ease loneliness a little if you have a sanctuary. Your animals must be a great comfort.
You’ve done the right thing coming on Gransnet as you will be able to join in with the chatty threads. There’s always something to talk about.
Have you joined in any local forums like Next Door or local Facebook groups? I moved to a completely new area two years ago and they helped me get the feel of the place. It’s hard to know where to start when you’re lacking in confidence. I don’t know much about agoraphobia but even without it I do understand how it sometimes takes all your courage to venture out and meet new people.
Wishing you all the best in your new life.
Divorced and been alone a long time most of the time I m fine occasionally feel a bit lonely but that’s far better than being in a twosome that’s not good
The agoraphobia is something that can be worked on have you had therapy for it ?
Here’s a funny story many years ago my friend was working as a mental health therapist with a lady with agoraphobia after a while they start brief walks first to the garden gate then a little way down the street etc etc Move on a few months and they had got as far as going on the tube All was going well until the tube train came to a stop in the tunnel My friend started to have a panic attack and her client had to comfort her and get her back to base 😊

Hello, Ceejayjay and welcome! You’ll find online friends here, I’m sure. I’d like to hear about your rescue pets, too!
Me too!
Hello, Ceejayjay and welcome! You’ll find online friends here, I’m sure. I’d like to hear about your rescue pets, too!
Hello, would you like to chat about your rescue animals, what are they, dogs, cats, rabbits?
Welcome ceejayjay - I’m divorced too and occasionally feel lonely. Today is one of those days. The weather doesn’t help. But I have good friends who are a phone call away. I see the family, not often, but regularly. They are busy with their young families. Our family WhatsApp group is a source of contact and fun. One particular neighbour calls in regularly for a chat.
Being agoraphobic doesn’t help, does it ? This is a great place just to open up or vent. We are all good listeners and some give very good advice. Unfortunately, I’m not one of them. I’m just a chatterer 😂
Oh bless you, you’ve had changes in your life that are bound to unsettle you for a while. I think as winter approaches our moods can be affected. I’m pleased to hear that you are happy with your new home and that you have three animal companions. They can make such a difference to our lives can’t they. Being able to express feelings on here is of great help too …as you will find. 💐
Hi
Recently divorced and moved to a lovely new home. Couldn’t be happier with it. I’ve got severe mental health impairments including agoraphobia and it’s really restricting on social time. I work full time from home but once I log off my computer I’m sometimes a little lonely. I’ve 3 beautiful companion rescue animals keeping me company which are keeping me sane. Not sure if I’m posting for advise or just a chat lol. Thanks for reading xx
