I would just point out, that looking up the price of a gift tells you nothing. For all you know these could be gifts regifted and cost the donor not a penny, or were bought on a special offer, or at a bargain price.

If someone gives you something, even if you do not want it just smile kindly and say thank you, even if you are looking at it and thinking how horrible it is.

I gave my lodger an expensive gift just before Christmas. She looked shell shocked and said she didn't want it and could I take it back to the shop and said we weren't to exchange presents.

I was disappointed but took it back to think who else I could give it to.

Come Christmas day and the lodger had gone away leaving a pile of gifts for me on my kitchen table!

I texted her to say what was that about!
Oh a wee thankyou said she.

Well yesterday she said she'd maybe changed her mind about my gift and will accept it after all!

People are strange but it's true giving can be more fun than receiving.

My DM hated surprises and thus thought everyone was like her. She would tell us what we were getting. I asked her why and she said when she was a small child she was watched opening her presents and had to pretend to like them even when she didn't.

I agree about receiving gratefully Pascal30 I can't get this through to my husband who loves helping people and giving them his home made produce but always tries to refuse a reciprocal gift. Others like to give as well.

Definitely accept with pleasure. Whatever it is you bring to their lives they obviously appreciate it.

They think you’re worth it. So, accept the gifts with grace and gratitude.
