To all those who responded to my chat - I lost my balance early Sunday morning and now in hospital with fractured femur! Any surgery on my back has now been delayed for 3/4 months to enable recovery to take place. Am not in a happy place.

Thank you all, you all sound very positive (apart from the OH whose procedure could not go ahead). I have a telephone conversation with my surgeon in 10 days time (as the symptoms have worsened since I saw him just before Christmas) so fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

One sonIL had this surgery, stayed over one night, and was thrilled with the result. Lots of physio for 3 months.

I had L4/5 microdiscectomy about 18 months ago - brilliant surgery. I can walk!

Hi, I had decompression L5 L5 about 5 years ago. It was amazing all pain went, I handed in my crutches and got back to normal.
I hD it done in Birmingham QE hospital and was home the next day!

Sounds pretty much like my husband was supposed to have last Feb. Got gowned up, stockings on etc and surgeon and anaesthetist came in and said his BP was so high that they dare not operate. So home we came.

Two friends have had this op and both have been very happy with the result and get no pain whatsoever now.

Anyone else have history of this and how was it for you? I have complete confidence in my surgeon but still feel anxious about the whole thing. Thank you.
