I’ve just read a good review in The Times, but it also says that these shots have chicory fibre so may not be suitable for those with IBS. Many thanks for the warning!

Here it is in a dish before straining in a seive, a spoonful of the grains so you can see the cauliflower like plant and a glass of thick kefir which can be diluted with milk (or juices or whatever if you fancy it).

It takes a couple of minutes a day (or every other day) to seive off the kefir, rince the cauliflower plant thingy and add fresh milk.

I have made kefir with a "plant" (grains?) since I was a student in the 1970s.
Really easy.

LucyAnna, here’s one way.

- Buy one of these:
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00B0CZTRG?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image&tag=gransnetforum-21
- Buy a Pyrex jug if you don’t have one already (any size - the process will just take longer if it is a larger jug)
- Fill the jug to within an inch of the top with your milk of choice (cow’s milk, soya milk, coconut milk, whatever)
- Sprinkle on the dried kefir grains and stir with a non-metal spoon
- Put a saucer or plate on top of the jug as a lid
- Leave the jug at room temperature out of sunlight until you have a set mixture with visible kefir grains. For me this takes 48 hours plus.

You can then keep the kefir in the fridge. When it gets down to 1-2 inches from the bottom of the jug, fill the jug with more of your chosen milk and leave it out at room temperature again. (Around 24 hours at this time of year, less in the summer.) I leave mine on the kitchen work surface out of the sun.

There is a similar process with kefir grains bought live, but you have to filter the kefir off the grains each time with a sieve.

The packets do come with instructions. I make both types. The kefir with grains bought dried is quick and easy to make, the other one a bit less so.

When I went to collect an order from our local small M&S yesterday they had posters all over the windows outside advertising this, at £2 a shot I think it is expensive for what it is. They obviously timed it for the New Year health bandwagon for everyone to climb on. Very easy to make your own Kefir and no added sweeteners.

Anyone tried / been able to get the M and S pre (?pro) biotic kefir shot drink? Saw it advertised and went in to look / buy it the other day - but sold out - all 3 shelves of it. Oldest daughter bought one in her local M and S - reckoned it was very sweet / quite expensive.
There are probably cheaper versions around with similar benefits?
