I am sure there must be a few of us with dry eye? Can I ask what treatment, if any, you use and how do you know if it's working? Mine is asymptomatic 🤓

Marydoll Thank you so much for your advice. I appreciate it.

I'm sorry to hear about your dental problems. I already have a lot of trouble with my teeth due to all my other health conditions. As it is, I don't know what's causing what but it seems I have more dental woes to look forward to. sad

Marydoll

I have Sjogren's syndrome, an autoimmune disease. I have precription eye drops, which were developed for dry eyes caused by Sjogren's.

Same Marydoll! I use hylo night ointment, and hycosan or hylo forte drops all on prescription.

For those that struggle with pressing the Hyloforte or Hycosan bottle accurately, there is a gadget you can buy or have prescribed. I can’t remember the name buts it’s pale blue.

Yes, I have dry eyes, and it has damaged them through not being dealt with for a long time.
I ended up with an ulcer on the back of my eye, which was excruciatingly painful.

I am still trying to get the damage and dryness under control.
I take hyloforte 8 times a day, a steroid drop in one eye once a day, hylo ointment at night, along with ikervis drops on each eye, and pilocarpine tablets 3 times a day, plus antibiotics.
And still they are sore and red.
I despair of them ever being right again.

I have dry eyes. I feel so deprived, not being able to cry.I have gel drops to use last thing at night and saline drops to use as necessary. Eye test due next month and it may be that my cataract will be ready for treatment.

Oh MissAdventure sorry to hear of your dry eye struggles. I hope your eyes improve soon x

Thank you. 🙂
I really hope so, too.

I have severe dry eyes and use drops 6 times a day and cream at night. Have tried loads of different ones that my Optician has given me. Preservative free ones work best for me. I now get them on prescription but the Dr changed me to cheaper ones and the Optician had to write to him to change them back. My current drops are Thealoz Duo. My friend had implants put in to help her dry eyes and it has been very successful.

HELLO, Anyone using AZARGA drops for glaucoma? A bit anxious after reading side effects

Sparklefizz Wed 21-Feb-24 17:28:35

I have Sicca Syndrome (possibly the start of Sjogren's but have not been able to get a diagnosis). I was using drops every hour all through the day and still having sore eyes but my optician advised taking high doses of Omega 3. I was already taking it but have doubled the dose and my eyes are so much better. Still needing to use drops but only 2 or 3 times a day instead of 10.

Is it possible for dry eye to affect only one eye? My left eye is waking me during the night, feels painful like grit in one spot and sore to open at first. I have been advised by optician to use hycosan night. But I'm reluctant in case it's something else, as it's only one eye. I do wish doctors still treated eyes. I don't think it's right that we have to go to the opticians instead now.

Sorry, I've just googled and the answer seems to be Yes.
Please ignore question.

Just bumping this up

Bump

EkwaNimitee Thu 09-May-24 09:06:43

I use Viscotears for mine though I have the same opinion as HelterSkelter about them.
This is a useful thread so I'm also bumping it up above all this spam.

I've been told it's blepharitis but I can't see any rash on my eyelids. And my eye is still gritty. I use hydramed drops, I've stopped using hycosan ointment, it feels very uncomfortable and if I'm awake, as I can be for hours, during the night I can't read.
How do heated eye masks help, and where can I buy, please, anyone?
Caleo interesting that you didn't need them in hospital. I wonder why. (Hope you're OK now).

Oldbat1 Thu 09-May-24 11:54:31

The optician advised the red hycosan to use. He also recommended using a heated eye mask (microwave 20seconds). I bought both off the shelf in Specsavers. What a difference to my eye comfort.

I have macular degeneration (wet form). I also have constantly weeping eyes and dry eye at night. The consultant recommended an eye mask containing flax. I find it helps a lot as long as I remember .to use it regularly.

nadateturbe Thu 09-May-24 19:19:24

Thanks everyone.

MissAdventure Thu 09-May-24 19:30:38

After using a heated mask on your eyes, you can gently massage them, pressing the skin just below your bottom lashes, and pushing gently upwards.

It's what the eye consultant told me to do.
It feels as if I'm descaling my bottom lids, and she said that is how it should feel, because that's what I'm doing.

nadateturbe Thu 09-May-24 20:12:57

Thanks MissA. Sorry to hear how much you're suffering with your eyes. It's a lot to cope with.

My optician have me permanent prescription National Heath Service.
I order them every month.

Toetoe Sat 11-May-24 22:11:10

Dry eyes after cataract surgery and use EVOLE eye drops on prescription . I have an electric eye mask and I was using daily then massaging my eye lids as recommended by optician but i think I over massaged and caused a flare up of bletheritis . Its taken 8 weeks for my eyes to calm. Now I am using the eye mask on low heat and not massaging eye lids but using cool boiled water to wipe my eyes a few times a day . My eyes feel wet most of the time . Been told I must live with it and it's age related

Lovetopaint037 Sun 12-May-24 05:47:53

I use Hycosan and Hycosan extra. They are the only eye drops I can use
as they do not contain preservatives. In the past any eye drops bought from the pharmacy sent my eyes mad with stinging.
and pain. Found Hycosan has really helped and yes it’s not that easy to deposit the drops exactly where you intend but as long as it is somewhere in the eye it works for me. I now order them from Amazon.

DanniRae Sun 12-May-24 07:12:46

I really suffered from dry eyes until I started using Hycosan Extra (red label). I still use it but mainly only once in the evening. It's expensive but lasts for ages and I am so glad I found it smile
