My DH had the problem that his white count was too low, However they requested that he go to the local hospital for a repeat test and this came back OK. When the receptionist rang and said the original needed to be repeated she said that when the blood is taken in the surgery there is often a delay getting it to the path lab which sometimes results in needing a repeat at the hospital. Hope your DH doesn't have to wait too long for his appointment.

How worrying for you both. I hope the referral to the haematologist gives you answers quickly. Best wishes.

Nothing direct but that is how my brother in laws leukaemia was found, by his high white cell count, he has just undergone 12 months treatment and is declared free at the moment although the treatment has taken it out of him

Hopefully your husbands problem is something different

My 80-year-old DH has an extremely high white blood cell count. A chest x-ray showed no pneumonia and he doesn't have a fever. He feels alright. He talked on the phone today with his GP who said one thing that could cause this is leukemia. He has been referred to a hematologist. Do any of you have experience with this type of situation?
