Ellie Anne thank you 💕
Still very up and down here I am struggling to cope but we have no choice do we. Take care all xx

HowVeryDareYou2 Sun 05-May-24 09:13:52

Doodle Glad there is a little improvement in your DH.
SweetpeaSue My bedroom needs a LOT doing to it. I cleared out drawers and cupboards, thrown lots away. I'd got 35 pairs of socks! It's a nice morning, are you going to be in your garden?
Whiff Have a really lovely time. It looks as though the weather should be good.
Wyllow3 Best of wishes, as always.
EllieAnne Sorry to hear about your cat, what's wrong?
nadateturbe Hope your eyes are more comfortable.

Just as I closed my bedroom curtains last night (11ish), Foxy came trotting up the path! I looked at the recordings from the camera this morning, he had to get around 2 cats to get to some food (they aren't scared off by him, and he doesn't chase them - in fact, a black & white one chases Foxy!)

Hope ALL BDers see some sunshine today.

Ellie Anne Sun 05-May-24 07:24:56

Whiff enjoy your holiday.you are very brave. I hope the weather is good and you get your boat trip.
I’m going to try to phone dd today.
My cat is very sick. Was at vet yesterday but no improvement so will have to try again tomorrow.
Doodle this popped up on phone this morning so I am trying to share it with you.

Whiff Sun 05-May-24 06:30:48

Doodle hope your husband improves this week . Wyllow so pleased to read you went out for a walk .

Well off on my first holiday for 19 years tomorrow to Berwick upon Tweed. Travelling by train and having travel assistance which is a great service been using since 2006 . Takes away most of my travel anxiety no fear of getting on and off the trains or getting on the wrong one. 2 changes each way. Going for 4 nights to the premier inn as it has assisted rooms ones for wheelchair users and ones for people like me. Lower bed and walk in shower ,raised toilet and handles. Booked it in November. Luckily the trains here aren't striking until 7th. So my journey there are back fine . Phew.

Look after yourselves all of you.

Wyllow3 Sun 05-May-24 00:20:22

And it's my night visit and good to know I can come in.

So hard, atm, Doodle. And you all - what you manage despite all.

So much is falling behind here and still I isolate, I think it's too scary to think and feel out loud inside. Another day, oh no....Just wrote more and deleted it!

Loving night thoughts to anyone wakeful xxx BD's.

Sweetpeasue Sat 04-May-24 22:06:58

Doodle So good to hear there's been some improvement in your DH. Hope you sleep well and feel a little better too. Good of you to come in and tell us. Thankyou. xx ❤️
Nadateturbe Hope you rest well too and feel a bit stronger tomorrow.
Wyllow night, night . x

DH a bit better this afternoon. Awake for a couple of hours and ate a little dinner. Love to all ❤️

nadateturbe Sat 04-May-24 20:06:40

I'd love to answer all your chatty post but it will have to wait. My eyes were a bit better last night thanks.
In bed, watched Sense and Sensibility this afternoon for the iumpteenth time. Still enjoyable.
Husband came up and watched HIGNFY with me. One of our favourite programmes.
Hope your evening is going as well as possible. smile
Hope you are managing Doodle.x

Sweetpeasue Sat 04-May-24 18:50:28

Scaredycat Just read your post of your DH and the terrible time he went through physically and mentally. You must have been so anxious and scared too . So glad he got through that time - it's amazing how strong the body is and how it can recover and heal.
More of the 'Barbara' image today😭 . We filled and moved 24 sacks of cut up Climbers and yes ,DH is appreciative-said he knew he'd married a good strong 'northern lass' . My back was killing and I reckoned enough hot water for a bath. Planned on having a soak in some Radox. Bath only half full, water started running like warm. Puzzled, stood up and looked out of window and there is DH swilling buckets of water over the patio quite happily! 🤨
HVDY Our GP surgery won't do F2F unless you need examining or its absolutely necessary and we could only pre-book appts under very rare circumstances. Only this year has there been a chance to have F2F as this particular GP has started doing. We may need another GP's advice if we don't get anywhere on Monday but that would mean telephone so is going to be awkward. DH is far from being right though. Our back garden is 40ft long though quite narrow lawn. Oooh you've been doing heavy work today ,moving a bed. Hope you get your bedroom decorated after all that. Will you be helping with the plastering.🤣
Nadateturbe No we don't grow all of our own potatoes- it's not really money saving tbh as so much compost involved- just nice to taste homegrown. It was my aunt that started us with it as she's grown them for yrs. My DH has done lots of DIY jobs over the yrs but it's difficult to get him to see he needs to slow down --grrr. Hope your eyes aren't hurting too much -that's really horrible and not something that can be helped with painkillers. Must be so irritating for you. Do you have to use drops or something? The book I picked is The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim. I've never read it but I've seen the film and it was gorgeous. I read another by the same Author and loved it. 'Elizabeth and her German Garden' . I remember reading that as the sun shone sat on our little patio and enjoying my lovely Solanum next to me. Oh bugger.
The one we've just ripped down.🫣

Doodle Hoping your DH is looking better than this morning. Xx
Love to all BDs and hope you're all OK.x

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 04-May-24 15:37:38

Doodle Oh, I'm so sorry you're both going through such a horrible time. I expect the painkillers are making your husband a bit woozy. You must both be very tired, too, and that will make you feel even worse. You're very dear to all of us here, and we all hope your husband improves and gets better very soon. Please take care to eat and drink enough, to keep your strength up.

ScaredyCat I'm absolutely useless with plants - I either overwater them or forget to bother at all. I didn't buy any plants today, after all. I decided to move the spare single bed (DH often sleeps in it due to his terrible snoring) to the smallest bedroom, and I want to move the double bed into the 2nd bedroom. The idea being that (one day) my room will be decorated - cupboards need knocking out, some plastering needs to be done, carpet needs replacing. It's a start.

Hope ALL BDers are having a good a day as possible x

nadateturbe Sat 04-May-24 15:06:11

Not up to posting much. But Scaredycat and Sweetpeasue have said everything I would want to say Doodle. Sending hugs and prayers too.xx

Sweetpeasue Sat 04-May-24 14:26:05

Oh *Doodle I'm so sorry for what you are both going through. Your DH must feel quite 'out of it' on his painkillers and naturally so down with being in hospital so long. I'm lost for words to say but Scaredycat has put it so well . You are always in our thoughts and it's not too strong to say you are very much loved here. Lots of prayers and good wishes and vibes going your way for your DH and yourself that he will make steady improvement and for you to have strength. Keep eating and drinking and grab rest where you can. Wish we could be of more help than words. Biggest hug coming to you. X

Scaredycat Sat 04-May-24 12:46:40

SweetPeaSue- oh what book did you chose- you are doing so well.
I know have an image of you in garden party hat and using a trug - a la Margo!! You,ve really got stuck in though and I bet your DH is secretly delighted with your hard work. You make a good team.
I,m glad his ECG was normal so his heart must be in good order but they must help him with those headaches poor man he,s put up with it long enough.
HVDY- hope your DH gets his scan soon. It’s a good job he is so laid back ,myDH is too normally but the cancer time was very difficult to deal with mentally for him.
We have tomatoes in pots but we are useless gardeners although enjoy pottering about. I always feel sorry for baby plants with us as carers!!
Nadateturbe- hope your eyes feel better today. I think as we get older our eyes are tired- just like us😩
I don’t like cooking a big meal either - thank goodness for Mand S I say! It’s such a temptation as we have a big M and S food hall 10 minutes away.
I guess like me that although we have different problems when the energy is there we do too much but it’s so nice to feel like doing things isn’t it.
Doodle- my heart goes out to you both- you are having such a worrying and distressing time. I expect the nights seem long for DH and he feels lonely and a bit lost. They are long for you too when you mind is in overdrive and sleep eludes you.
Sending big warm hugs and know that you are constantly in our thoughts- we love you.
Wyllow- hope you are OK today and able to enjoy some moments of light. I love to see your posts as do many of us- it makes the day feel complete. Take carexx

Doodle Sat 04-May-24 10:53:46

Hello all. Strange day today. I didn’t get much sleep last night. DH phoned me 3 times and was quite confused. He seems very flat today when he’s awake which isn’t often. I think we’re both quite miserable.
Hope you are all ok. Lots of health problems and worries. Take care all xx

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 04-May-24 09:09:54

ScareyCat That must have been a worrying time, with your DH having the cancer. I've been reading up (Good old Google) about thyroid nodules, so know what to expect (I think),and the consultant said last November she didn't kno whether the problem is with the thyroid or parathyroid glands. We'll see, when he gets the CT. DIL got home 5.30, Son was waiting around for her since 10am. She was groggy and her eyes were naturally sore (they did both eyes).

SweetpeaSue Oh, I see why your husband prefers to see the GP f2f. All of them at our surgery do f2f. I though all GPs were meant to do so these days. Our garden is about 70ft long, but my husband grows tomatoes in buckets on the patio, like yours does with potatoes.

Doodle Thinking about you and your husband every day. Hope he improves a lot very soon.

nadateturbe Hope your eyes are feeling better. When I have lazy days, I do the least I can do - today, washing and some vacuuming, not much else. Life is different - I used go to work, to do Zumba 4 days a week, go out socially every Saturday evening, and I could move quickly. I don't look as though I've ever had a stroke (no one-sided droop, my speech has been unaffected) because it was a bilateral stroke (both sides), which is apparently rare. Life is still good, though.

No visitors today, so we'll potter about and I might buy some little plants to go in pots. Hope ALL BDers manage to have a decent day x

nadateturbe Sat 04-May-24 07:48:58

Sweetpeasue Some nice caring words to people in your last post.
It was great to have a day without pain. Sounds like you made the most of it. I hope you don't suffer too much today from all your garden work. (I'm picturing a scruffy Good Life Barbara lol)
Do you grow all your own potatoes?
I laughed at your DH thinking he could still do what he did thirty years ago. Men are a bit like that. I think it's hard for them to admit they can't.
I do frequently get it wrong, energy wise, with pacing. And sometimes out of the blue my energy just goes. It's not always predictable. My husband is wonderful though.
What book did you suggest for the book group? It's nice to have yours chosen.
I'm glad your husbands ECG was good but he needs to find the cause of the headaches. I hope and pray you are heard on Monday.

nadateturbe Sat 04-May-24 07:26:04

Scaredycat I forgot to say, it's nice that you considered your neighbours with the fence.

nadateturbe Sat 04-May-24 07:19:08

Scaredycat Gosh your husband went through a lot with his thyroid cancer. I'm sure that was an awful time. It's great that he's recovered so well, and also great that he is still monitored. I'm continually amazed at how well people on BD have coped with things.
I think cooking a big meal is beyond me now. I used to love having dinner parties. Still, we're lucky to have the nice memories😊 My guests would get an M&S meal now.

Greek yogurt. I know it sounds strange but my husband likes it too.

nadateturbe Sat 04-May-24 07:02:25

HVDY I didn't realise you rested so much and that life has changed so much for you since your stroke. You certainly make the most of your good days and are very positive. I'm sure having family around you helps a lot. I hope you got a good sleep after your busy, though nice, day with chubby chops.
It's good your husband is laid back, I think it helps not to worry too much about things. My husband is like that, much healthier than being anxious.
I hope your DiL got through her eye op OK. It's not pleasant having eye treatment.
We had a lovely sunny day yesterday and just light wind. Very cheerful. Hope yours picks up today.
I use thick Greek yoghurt, usually Fage.

Wyllow3 Fri 03-May-24 23:26:50

Doodle hugs.

And hugs to all. Love, BD's

Sweetpeasue Fri 03-May-24 22:06:31

Doodle I think about you and DH every day. I'm so sorry you are having to go through all this. So much hope for an improvement tomorrow. Thankyou for letting us know. Wish I could help more than kind words. Prayers and love. x

Nadateturbe Hope your eyes are soon back to normal. Sleep as well as possible. x

nadateturbe Fri 03-May-24 21:39:15

Sorry, eye problem (minor) affecting sleep and eye test today. Sore and tired.
Glad to hear of DHs slight improvement Doodle. It must be lonely for you, as Sweetpeasue says.x
Hope you all have a good night xx
Talk tomorrow xx

Doodle Fri 03-May-24 20:26:11

Sorry not up to posting much. Maybe a slight improvement in DH today but it’s all a bit up and down. Love to all x

Sweetpeasue Fri 03-May-24 19:50:09

Doodle You must get so lonely going back to your hotel room especially if it's been a bad day for your DH. I really hope he's been better today. I hope your shoulder isn't still painful. Thoughts very much with you.
ScaredycatBit more news on my book group- my book suggestion has been chosen (voted for) so I'm really pleased. Solanum is a pretty climber ,mine is blue-its a long way from the posh Wisteria though as it's really from the potato plant. Anyway it's coming out tomorrow 😢. DH's ECG was fine thankyou and results are normal. Hope you've been OK today and the AF not getting you down too much.
HVDY You've had a busy day today ,you will need to put your feet up tonight. Hope your DIL'S procedure was successful and she wasn't too worried.
Our garden is much like your own with
mostly lawn. The climbers and couple of shrubs in the border next to fence and our plum tree at the bottom. It's quite small really so we grow the potatoes in buckets on the concrete ground next to lawn. Our GP is the only 1 who does all appts F2F (started not long ago) so I get the chance to be there with DH. I agree ,it's often a good idea to have fresh eyes though at times.
Nadateturbe You must get so frustrated about rationing your energy for a more energetic day afterwards. It can't be easy and there must be times when things don't go to plan. Glad you got your scones done. I've never had yoghurt on them either but it sounds nice and a good idea. I'm not really a gardener either but I've had to be today!
Helping DH fill sacks and dig up some things. I knew it would be hard work but he insisted in not getting someone to do it. Reminded me he'd done the bit of paving under the window where we sit (he did --35 yrs ago! )
Wyllow It's really good that you managed a walk out yesterday with your MH worker. I hope she can come again soon . It's so awful you can't get more help as it's so obvious that you need it. I remember you saying how lovely your garde was and your ex did it all. It must be sad seeing it grow a bit wild but hope you can turn a blind eye to the wild bits and there's somewhere secluded you could sit in the fresh air. Wishing for a turning point in your illness so much. x
EllieAnneCandy**Whiff**Allsorts
Nanny Hope you're all OK.

Been a good day today, only painkillers during night. Did some shopping on morning then helped DH in garden. The climbing rose had been in long time so root ball needed digging out-honestly DH was in a lather. I'd helped dig out bits and pieces and bag lots of jasmine and solanum but they still need tops cutting down and roots up. Then took sacks to the tip with DH. I'll ache tomorrow but so worried about him.
DH thought it highly amusing seeing me get stuck in. He knows I'm more of a Margo than a Barbara( The Good Life) in the garden. Wish son was home.

Hope everyone has a peaceful night.

Scaredycat Fri 03-May-24 19:06:07

HVDY- my DH is Ok now thank you but takes lots of meds. They removed half his thyroid gland then after finding it was cancerous removed the other half but a bit of a disaster happened and he lost all his parathyroid glands too. He also had radioactive treatment afterwards. But he’s fine thank you.
I have to,write a timetable if I do a big meal or I get in a bit of a tizz too.
Hope your DiL is recovering nicely from her anaesthetic- it must be very difficult for her with her phobias.
It’s been really cold today but we’ve had a walk and been to M and S for a bit of shopping and coffee.
Have a rest now you must be getting tiredx
