New breast cancer diagnosis

Hi all. Just posting to release some steam really !! Had a mammogram two weeks ago and got a call back letter on Friday - not specific about why. Went to the clinic yesterday - 3D mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies and then a face to face with the consultant radiographer. Took me through the scans and said that she is 99% sure that we’re looking at a malignant tumour on the right side. Biopsies will confirm, but in the meantime she’s made an appointment for me to see the surgical team on Friday of next week. She’s as sure as she can be that there’s no lymph gland involvement, but again biopsies will confirm, and she passed me on to the breast care nurse to explain what happens next.

Basically they think they’ve caught it at an early stage and they’re hopefully that it can be treated with minimal surgery - possibly vacuum extraction under anaesthetic as a day case. They’re waiting for the biopsies to confirm the type of cancer it is and what treatment it responds to best, before deciding whether to do ‘belt and braces’ treatment before and after surgery with either chemo or radiotherapy. I think what I’m asking is if anyone has had a similar experience, and how it was for you. Thanks in advance.

Best wishes to you, Pammie. I am glad that you went in for this visit and I'm glad the technology exists for early diagnosis. It sounds as though you have a great team of medical staff on your side and although we can't be there in person, you have so many friends on GN to stay by your side virtually as you take these steps.

Different cancer different area but last January had two ops one for pre cancerous cells then for stage 1 cells…. the care I got was fantastic, really on the ball, everything done in a quick time frame It’s a bloody shock though isn’t it ? Now have three check ups a year expecting one in a few weeks time. I can only praise my local hospital and doctor (new to me) for sending me in the first place
Wishing you all the luck in the world Pammiel💐

Well, you kept that under your hat, Bluebelle.
Glad you're ok now, enough to just need checkups, at least.

Thanks MissA

My sister had a mastectomy 8 years ago followed by chemotherapy for Stage IV breast cancer., plus removal of 16 sentinel lymph nodes from her armpit. She’s doing great.
Best wishes to you for your treatment.

Still reading the replies and feeling bolstered by the support. Thank you everyone. Not long to go now before biopsy results and finding out what the plan of attack will be.

Sending my good wishes too Pammie. I have had breast cancer twice as well. First time a lumpectomy. Second time was 17 years later (2 years ago) & resulted in a mastectomy. It certainly shakes you up, but my treatment was speedy, the cancers were early stage and I now take hormone blockers which so far have had no unpleasant side effects. I’ll be taking them for years to come. I have an annual review & feel incredibly fortunate to have had the treatment I have. It enables me to get on with my life with the safety net of the breast care department at my local hospital if I need them. I wish you the best of luck. I’ll shall think of you. I hope you let us know how things go for you. 💐

Thank you, and also to everyone who has offered their support. My appointment is Friday morning so l’ll update as soon as l know what’s happening. Still feeling positive, but my partner has been in pieces. We’ve had a good heart to heart and he’s promised me that his ‘wobble’ is over with and he’s got my back now. So dreading and looking forward to Friday at the same time !! Once l know what’s happening l’ll be fine. Knowledge is power. Thanks everyone.

I have no personal experience of breast cancer but I just wanted to send every good wish and a big hug. So glad your partner is being supportive, that will make all the difference. Take care and all the best for Friday. Xx

Hi folks. Just a quick update. Was quietly readying myself for the appointment on Friday morning when I got a phone call to say the appointment was cancelled. Actually the whole clinic was cancelled due to staff sickness. About ten minutes later another phone call to say they’d managed to tack me onto another clinic for this coming Monday 22nd - the seventh anniversary of my husbands’ passing !! Hopefully it’s a good omen - I feel he’s up there watching over things because up to now it’s been very positive. Will let you know how it goes, and thank you to everyone for your support - it means a lot.x

Pammiel all the best for tomorrow. I know it's hard but once you have the results at least you will have a plan of action. And you are not alone. So many here have told you of their experiences and they will be here for you whenever you need them. 💐
