Yes it can take six months to build back up again. Good nutrition and regular exercise as you can tolerate. You will be there doesn’t happen overnight sadly.

It has taken Mum 5 months and she has COPD. She had oxygen for 4 months. We thought she wouldn't make it but has with help of Hospital at home team and Care Home.

It will take as long as it takes so you have to be patient with your body and yourself.
I know fresh air and gentle exercise does it for me. Also the obvious healthy diet and good sleep routine.
I have also started taking extra vitamins especially Vit D as they help the immune system.
It is also really important to have some fun in your life and do the things you enjoy.

Eventually you will feel a difference and I hope you will be back to normal soon.

I'm 7 weeks into recovery from community acquired pneumonia/hypoxia and becoming very impatient with myself! It's my usual MO so no surprises theresmile! I'm just wondering if anyone can shed any light on how long it took them to recover from the breathlessness? GP and other medics have said it can take 6 months to a year to make a full recovery - I'm hoping it's not going to be as long as that.
