Tooth Implants

I've had one implant in my left lower jaw. It replaces a large back molar so it gets a lot of action.The procedure involves several visits , a lot of pushing but no pain.
That was 5 years ago (touchwood) I've had no trouble with it, it's been great , I wish all my teeth were implants because they wouldn't decay/need fillings.
I went to an Implant Specialist dentist so that's all they do and they're experts. Worth the money.
No experience of bridges , sorry.

I have had an enormous amount of dental work including many crowns, root canal fillings and four implants. I had two implants( premolars) about 15 years ago and they are still going strong, no problems at all - in fact I have had them so long now I have almost forgotten they are not my own teeth.
During Covid I had a tooth abscess in a back tooth and because of lack of available treatment at the time I ended up losing both that tooth and the one next to it. So last year I had two more implants with equally good results. Of course it was expensive - I paid £7000 for the two recent implants - but I am prepared to do without expensive holidays etc. in order to afford them.
My regular dentist said he would always advise implants rather than bridges if the patient could afford the treatment as a bridge will put additional strain on the neighbouring teeth and can possibly lead to further problems in the future.
I didn’t find the implant treatment at all painful compared to, say, root canal fillings which are, for me, pretty dreadful.
If you can afford the implants definitely go for it!

I would have an implant rather than a bridge in a heartbeat.

I had an implant 5 years ago. Haven’t had any problems at all and would have another if I ever needed to.

The trouble with a bridge is you need to damage a nearby tooth to "build" the bridge.

The implant just becomes like a "real" tooth.
I have had mine for years and years. It was money well spent.

I’d need bone ‘added’ and as a great big scaredy cat there’s no way.

Love my implant, may have cost a fortune however really, really sorry that I didn’t go for two!!

One implant 👍 two crowns 👍 used teeth whitener via dentist and often have compliments about my teeth at 77. Go for it.

I had a single tooth bridge and after 7 years it became unstuck, It could be put back but there is a tendency for it to come unstuck again and again, once it first happens. Part of my tooth next to it was filed away for the bridge to happen

I decided to get a single implant recently as I need something in that space to stop my teeth moving together and I cannot bear the feel of acrylic over my top palate so my decision was spur of the moment and the specialist was available, so he came to see me immediately and did the ct scan. I was not expecting to ask for an implant that morning.

I am part way, still have a small `opening up` procedure and was scared of the bone graft etc but once the day came I just acted like an automaton and the grafting procedure and implant insertion was over in just over an hour. I am able to lose myself in my mind so never appeared stressed. I drove myself home

There is another thread and I have described the first stage and post op in more detail. It was a surgical operation for me and I wore roomy trainers on purpose, so I could clench my toes.

I don`t want to go through another one, however I have a similar bridge on the other side of my front teeth. If that went then I would do it again

I was fortunate in that no bone graft needed.
