Laser treatment for high pressure in eyes

I have had high pressure in both eyes for 20 years. Currently I am using Timoptol eye drops at night. At my hospital check up last week my drops were changed to Ganfort and I have an appt in 6 weeks time to discuss laser treatment as the pressure in one eye especially was very high.
A friend said she had a very raised pressure in one eye about 25 years ago and the optician sent her to the hospital and she had laser treatment very quickly.
My questions are has any GN used Ganfort drops? And has any GN had laser treatment? This has never been offered to me before and I am surprised my friend had laser treatment then when she hadn't had raised pressures before....nor since. Thank you for any advice.

I had laser treatment recently. It was a breeze. They put drops in your eyes, leave it for about 15 minutes then do the laser treatment. It doesn’t hurt at all you just hear the sound of the surgeon putting one or two holes in your iris to reduce the pressure. They send you home with drops to take for 3 days. That’s it.

They will check me out annually to see if I need it repeated or not.

Happily now I won’t get glaucoma like my sister.

I’ve had a lot of problems with my glaucoma. Have used Ganfort which controlled things for a bit and didn’t give me any problems. Have recently had laser treatment and am waiting to see if it’s done the trick. It was very easy, 15 minutes under local anaesthetic, and no problems afterwards. If you don’t already use it the Glaucoma UK website is a good source of information.

I had laser treatment a few years ago because my Mum had glaucoma and when I was having a routine eye test they found that my 'angles' were closing so to prevent pressure I was sent to a consultant. I ended up getting it done privately through work but found out that it had actually only cost £300 so this could possibly be an option for you? I am not worried at all by surgery apart from eyes but it was very simple and I was back at work the same day, so if I can do it anyone can. Good luck.

Thank you for your messages. I have a hospital appt in 6 weeks by which time I should have had 5 weeks of Ganfort. So that may help get the pressures down. Otherwise they will discuss laser treatment with me. I just wonder why I have been on Timoptol eye drops and annual hospital check ups for 20+ years when laser treatment was an option?
And I started off seeing the consultant privately 20 + years ago as I had medical cover at work and was referred by my GP.
The treatment sounds fine. So thank you for putting my mind at rest. After 2 years of chemo and then maintenence treatment, I really get a bit jittery in a hospital setting now.
