Agreed, we lucky enough to have knee/hip replacements available, let’s make the most of it. My surgeon said it will be painful during the first month but in the long term, I give you back your quality of life. Can’t fault that! smile

Maybee it is not a walk in the park but well worth it. I have had both knees replaced and although I cannot walk far, I can get around a supermarket without giving a thought to where is the nearest seat because I am in agony. No pain in bed at night which is bliss. I need my right hip replaced but I am hopeful my own will "see me out".

Get yourself ready mentally. It took me several months to reach that stage. With the increasing and constant arthritic pain, the bad sleep, I was there and more than ready to have surgery.
It went well with an epidural anaesthetic, and after one month the pain and bruises had gone. Follow exactly what the medics tell you to do. 4.5 months later, I live a normal life, a bit slower but no pain. I know I’m still recovering but I walk normally and do stand up Pilates to strengthen my body. Good luck.

I’ve had several friends that have new knees recently and I must admit that the thought of having one myself ( which I will need sooner than I’d hoped) is rather scaring me.

I suppose I’m still getting used to my new knee. Good advice though. Thanks

Stop doing static repetitive exercises. Just keep walking about and going up and down stairs etc. Aquarobics are fun. Most of all try to stop thinking about it and live your life. I remember sitting at my computer table and suddenly realising that my new knee was bent right under me. It had quietly been improving and improving while I was busy just living my life.
You'll soon find that too. Good luck.

I can't see that hip thread. The search says no results.

Thank you Visgirl. Quality life for you and me and others.

There is a fantastic Hip and Knee thread on here check it out, the posts on there are so useful.
They will have the answer to your question.
I have had both Hips replaced plus a knee. The knee and Hip done around 20 months ago within 6 months of each other. I was been back at the the gym 6 months after my last op, I'm now fitter, lost loads of weight, now I'm fully mobile.
I was grateful to the GN Hip and Knee crowd they have a wealth of tips. Check it out, and my answer to the question, it not really just depends on the angle.

Hello all, I would like to share my experience of TKR. I had mine done 4.5 months ago and although I'm doing fine, walking and going up the stairs holding on AND still doing my exercices, I still feel the implant. Would this feeling will ever go and when do you start walking smoothly like before. Thank you.
P>S> overall I'm happy with it.
