Anyone had angiogram or stent?

I had a heart attack over 20 years ago and had an angiogram and then 2 stents fitted. The angiogram was via the wrist and the stents via my groin. They were uncomfortable but easily bearable especially as you can watch the procedure on the screen... and of course they saved my life.. well wishes with yours Luckygirl3

I had angiogram about fifteen years ago because it was thought I had angina but it was determined that I did not. It’s necessary to determine the function of arteries you will be fine best wishes to you.

I had an angioplasty - two stents inserted - a year ago. I'm weird I know but I really enjoyed being able to see the procedure on screen and had no discomfort. The surgeon talked me through it as he proceeded, presumably because I was so relaxed about it. My wrist was spectacularly multi-colour-bruised afterwards but not sore. It worked a treat for me and my recent follow-up tests were perfect.

My husband had both procedures done over 20 years ago, I can't recall him feeling a lot of discomfort, he said it wiped him out for a few weeks in the aftermath. I think he's very fit for his age, slightly underweight now, always having to tighten his belt, so jealous of that plays golf several times and week and is often busy in the garden with physical activities when he's not doing that. I'm over ten years younger, I'm quite sluggish in comparison, under active thyroid

He put his blocked arteries down to being a smoker from 16 to early 30s when he binned his last packet one New Year's Day and has never hesitated to tell our sons that when they started smoking late teens twenties, both have now stopped.

I had two stents two years ago. The procedure was slightly uncomfortable but not painful. It has given me a new lease of life. Good luck to you Keep well

Mine was an emergency. An attempt was made to fit the stent through my wrist, but it failed, so it was fitted through my groin. I ended up with massive bruising to my arm and leg :-(. I was sedated, but aware of what was going on. Quite honestly, I was just relieved that I wasn't going to die. As soon as blood was getting to my heart again after the stent was fitted, I felt almost immediately better.

I hesitate to tell you this but my angiogram via the wrist was so incredibly painful that they had to stop and give me fentanyl before they could continue. I’d been given no painkillers or sedation before the procedure so had assumed it would be perhaps uncomfortable but not painful. Wrong. It was ok being inserted into the wrist but as it started to move up my arm it felt as though someone was using an apple corer up the middle of my arm. The cardiologist just said ‘oh dear you must be one of the few who have sticky veins’!

If I have to have one again I will find a hospital which does the groin entry as I’ve never heard anyone say they had problems with one. Or/and ask for sedation or pain killers before they start.

I have had both. I had a stent eighteen months/two years ago and an angiogram in December. I found the angiogram a little uncomfortable for a very short time, just while the catheter goes into the wrist area. Afterwards I was tired but whether that was due the original problem or the angiogram I have no idea! You will be fine and feel so much better. Good luck.
