Depression??

Liliesmum, I realized that my previous post was a ramble that did not answer your question. You asked if anyone has had this before. Yes, I have had this happen before. I was non-stop weepy, out of nowhere and went to my GP who prescribed anti-depressants which, after a couple of weeks, stopped those symptoms. I don't know why it happened but it had a name: Major Depressive Disorder. It was really awful. If you are having this trouble, you should probably call your GP for help as it can be a serious illness. I hope you feel better soon !

I think the current weather is conducive to feeling down. Since last July we seem to have been under a constant ceiling of grey cloud. As I write the sun is shining and I am feeling quite cheerful, but a quick glance at the weather forecast tells me that the cloud and rain are only half an hour away and I will soon be feeling as flat as a panckae.

Brief lows like yours can also be hormonal. Before the menopause, I used to feel very flat and sad mid-month when I was ovulating.

I would not necessarily start looking for reasons for your feelings. Even after the menopause, our hormone levels can fluctuate and change and other things can change. Just ride it out and, as others suggest if your holiday does not put an end to it, see your doctor.

I have many blessings in life, but often wake up in the morning and feel a bit ‘down’. Why? I have much to be thankful for, but fret about real and imagined stuff, some of it trivial I know.

I realise this isn’t depression, but I think we expect too much of life, and this can bring you down sometimes.

On the subject of holidays, I find myself worrying about numerous things, especially leaving the house unattended. If it were up to me, I probably wouldn’t go, but DH is always keen.

I think since I retired, I am perfectly happy at home and have no need to ‘get away’, whereas when I worked, holidays were a welcome break.

Very good advice, here. I, too, think you might be feeling overwhelmed. Try not to think so far ahead into the days of your holiday and just think about what you will be doing in the next four hours of today. That is a much more manageable chunk of time to deal with. When your thoughts race ahead, the way you feel is not wrong or right. It just is. Be an Observer of these thoughts or worries or emotions that Lilliesmum is experiencing and look at it with a curious mind. Know that you will be just fine. ❤️

Sometimes all the organising to go away can be overwhelming. Hopefully you will have a great holiday with your family. Maybe going away has provoked memories of holidays past. I find I’m much more emotional as I’ve aged and have weepy days but I’m not depressed or unhappy. It is 60 plus itis 😂 Happy holidays relax and enjoy

This probably isn’t much help, but I always feel a bit stressed before I go away on holiday, however much I’m looking forward to it. I’ve suffered from depression in the past, and am being treated for it at the moment, but anxiety has always gone with it.

There’s no reason you can’t see the GP and say what you’ve said here - they may be able to refer you for some counselling (depending on where you live). This can be very enlightening if you don’t understand where your feelings are coming from.

Try to concentrate on your holiday with your family make it your main occupation.
I don't know where you are but where I am the weather is enough to put a dampener on anyone's mood.
Consider this some people are alone and have no family you do. Get your suitcase ready and look forward to having a holiday with your family💐

Are you sleeping OK and is your appetite reduced?
Maybe some sunshine on holiday will help? I do hope so.

Life is so challenging, the news so disturbing. I sometimes wonder how people can not be depressed.

When the family were around, at least it bookmarked the day and days. So much loss.

It doesn’t sound to me as though you have depression. I am familiar with clinical depression as I have lived with it for almost forty years. You are a bit down at present and probably subconsciously anxious about the holiday. If you were truly depressed, you would not be looking forward to the holiday or anything else.

On "down" days, which I appreciate is not the same as depression, I try and make sure I eat well. Just to make sure I am getting the nutrients I need.
Green leafy veg, beef etc etc.

We've had a lot of sad news recently and maybe you feel overwhelmed by that. If this is a true depression I think you will feel more than weepy.. For your own security of mind I would suggest seeing your GP if this progressively becomes worse.. but if you are still able to function quite well with daily activities perhaps the holiday is what you really need.. I wish you well..

I'm not making light of how you're feeling and I know it can be bewildering when depression comes out of nowhere but sometimes I feel down when I'm cold but don't realise I'm cold, especially with cold feet. I put a sweater on and it generally perks me up. This weather is enough to make us all feel down. Hoping you feel better soon.

Sometimes we all feel a bit low. I was feeling a bit weepy last week when lots of small things and a sort of sudden "memory swamp" from earlier times and happy days suddenly felt too much.
If I had a holiday with grandchildren to "look forward to" I might have felt worse.

If it continues then please do get some help.
...or if you "know" it is different to this more "ordinary", passing, overwhelming feeling.

I think many of us have times when we feel down. Sometimes there is no obvious reason.
If the feelings carry on for weeks then you should see your doctor.
You may find that your holiday will help to make you feel better. Have a lovely time.

I’d query if you have true depression as such and not judt having second thoughts and doubts about this holiday.

I’m sure other GN’s will have a better knowledge of these things.

I can’t really help other than wonder if there are other things going on in your life, or despite saying you are looking forward to the holiday, somehow you’re actually not? Maybe this holiday is reminding you of past times - sad or happy.
