Chest infection

Five weeks ago my OH started with a nasty chest infection. Basically full of phlegm, coughed all night etc. Dr. said it was a virus but sent him for x ray which came back clear, he insisted he wanted antibiotics and was given them albeit reluctantly. It still hasn't gone but he's much better than he was. However I started with it a week ago but dont have a cough. Had a serious attack of breathlessness in bed despite being propped up. Its happened three times since where I couldn't get breath. Mucus blocking air canal and just when I think its not going to clear managed to cough to loosen it. I have been taking Covonia linctus but will get Dr. appt asap.

Does anyone know how best to clear this? Also when my air canal is blocked should my oh slap me on the back to dislodge it. Its very frightening and I didnt sleep last night as I refused to lay down in case it blocked in my sleep.

Lots of bronchitis and long lasting colds around at the moment.

I'm suffering and have taken antibiotics because I have an infection. This is the first time in 5 years and I used to get it about twice a year. I realised that it's probably because I had stopped taking Vitamin D3 a two or three months ago. I started taking Vit D after a recommendation and, if and when I felt a cold coming on it just disappeared.

If you have lots of mucus try cutting down on dairy products for a while. Also, the old fashioned method of inhaling steam with a towel over your head and menthol in the water.

It's not good to keep trying to clear mucus by lots of coughing. The action can make you vomit.

steam therapy is usually quite successful at clearing airways but you must see a GP

Really interested to read this post. Since about January I have had a bit of a cough which worsens at night in bed. Like you it seems to be mucus which I just cannot get up. I waited a few months before seeing my GP. They referred me for XRays and gave me a nasal spray which has done no good. Said I didn’t need antibiotics.

The xrays were clear so I carried on as before but saw a pharmacist at the end of May who gave me a Chesty Cough Expectorant. Still no better.

I don’t feel ill as such but feel like I want a really good cough to clear this stuff!
