Recently been diagnosed with silent reflux after going to various doctors for 25 years with a persistent cough. I want to share a book I found about it by Dr Jonathan Aviv called the acid watcher diet. which has helped me enormously . It requires a change of diet but it's well worth it if you're suffering as I did . I also lost half a stone overnight.

Will look into that. Thanks.

I have had a cough since January.
Chest xray clear around March.
Saw pharmacist end May who gave me an expectorant medicine which doesn’t help.
I do have a sliding hiatus hernia and take Lanzoprazole daily. i cough most at night.
I wondered about diet, because if I have, say, a milk shake or chocolate or cheese I believe I cough more.

On the other hand - I was treated for 'silent reflux' for almost 20 years too, but my problem turned out to be a prescription pill for blood pressure. I'm sorry I can't remember its name.

Silent reflux can be really challenging to diagnose and manage. It's impressive that you lost half a stone so quickly.
Thanks for sharing this resource

Hi everyone, I'm hoping for some guidance here please. Approximately 12 months ago, mainly in the evening I would start to feel nauseous, feel pain travelling up between my breasts and round to the sort of below the shoulder blade on the right side. More often than not I would end up throwing up. This whole process could take around 2 hours. It wasn't every night, sometimes it would happen first thing in the morning. Although more common of an evening. At first I thought it might be down to stress as we were selling our house and buying elsewhere. I found sometimes sipping bicarb dissolved in water helped. It carried on even after we moved. 10 days after moving I actually had such a bad episode that I walked into a medical centre and asked to see a GP. I must have looked bad (sweating profusely) that an ambulance was called. Everyone seemed to think it was my heart. It wasn't. Discharged next day and then started a whole load of testing. I think virtually every part of my body has been MRI'd, Ultra sounded, ex-rayed etc. Everything seems to be working fine. Had a gastroscopy, nothing definitive found. So GP started me on Creon 25000 and a probiotic. I've been on this since end of January. Since then have only thrown up twice. Had a couple of mild pain issues, but nothing a wheatie didn't sort out. I kept a food diary but couldn't seen anything that linked up. I have a fairly plain diet being a Type 2 Diabetic which I control with diet (lost 16kgs)Diagnose 23 months ago. Very rarely have take-away food, very rarely have bacon or highly processed food. My treat is a square of dark chocolate. When it was happening it wasn't every day, I even went almost 3 weeks without an episode, sometimes it would be 2/3 days in a row. The Gastroenterologist said it must be stress. I have always been thought of as a fairly stoic person. Whatever happens , just get on with it etc. Moving house is not stressful as such as have done it many times. Does anyone have any ideas please? I'm happy to keep taking prescribed medication as it does seem to be working. Thank you for reading all of this.

Did they check your gallbladder?
I'm not completely sure where exactly it is, or whether it would seen during all the tests, but I'm sure the pain goes through your body from front to back, as you have described yours.

MissAdventure, yes it was, plus pancreas, live, kidney etc. Sorry didn't mean to jump on Bramblewitich's post. Thought I'd posted separately. Apologies.

Gall stones can cause referred pain in the shoulder . I went for 20 years with episodes of pain before someone went back to the X-rays of my gallbladder and saw tiny little stones . I used to be in agony with the pain .

My sister went through the same thing for about 3 years it turned out to be gallstones, but even after having her gall bladder out she still has some pain.my son is also taking Creon for his pancreas
,he doesn't digest food properly but also had dangerously low potassium .and was rushed to hospital twice in 3 weeks and put on a drip
The Creon are helping s lot though

Do you think it might be trapped wind?
I know that sounds trite, but it can be really agonising from things I've read.

I get very similar episodes of pain, even down to the timings you've stated, but mine is a hiatus hernia and being greedy

The pill is Lansoprazole, it is well.known for giving people a tickly cough.

I had a tickly cough for years and in the end was diagnosed with silent reflux. I thought I had a nasal drip down the back of my throat but it was all checked out. I started with Omeprazole a few years ago and then changed to Lansoprazole, which has solved the problem.
