Pneumonia and shingles jabs- anyone had?

Just as title says really. I’m due to go tomorrow- got a phone call booking me in for the Shingles jab as I’ve just turned 65, was expecting that.
Then I noticed on the NHS app that permission had been given for the pneumonia jab to be administered tomorrow too.
Different arms I’m assuming but not sure how I feel about having both at the same time- especially as I haven’t been informed by phone or text re the pneumonia- just a note on the ‘my health’ section of the NHS app.

The RSV is primarily aimed at the 75-79 age group.

I was a bit worried about having a flu and covid jab at the same time last year but went ahead with it with no ill effects. To be honest these days I take every vaccination I can have! It’s really important to have the shingles and pneumonia jabs, especially as they only need doing once. Always an idea to check up on tetanus jab status, too. I did feel very tired one year after having my flu jab and the pharmacist said she was the same ( as was my partner) so always an idea to have a clear week afterwards to rest up if you do feel tired.

Shingles vacc is 2 doses, 6 months apart.

I've been invited for an RSV jab.Has anyone had this? I've never heard of it.

Yes, we had the RSV jab, No ill effects.

I haven't been offered RSV, although I have respiratory issues. Is there an age limit for getting it (I'm 65)?

I did hear that there was a risk of it causing Gullain Barre Syndrome occasionally, which would make me think twice though.

I had the pneumonia jab ages ago (maybe ten years), and seem to remember being told it would last for life.

I had covid and shingles jabs last week in different arms with no ill effects at all.
Haven't been offered Pneumonia or RSV jabs at all.

Cabbie21 Sun 20-Oct-24 08:39:49

Last month I had the RSV and pneumonia jabs at the same time in Different arms, no ill effects.
I asked about the shingles jab but was told that the one I had two years ago does not need a booster. Like RSV and pneumonia which are also one-offs, they said.
Last week I had Covid and flu jabs on the same day, in different arms. No ill effects other than a bit of a sore arm, the flu one, unlike last year when I and quite a few others were unwell for a couple of days.

It's pot luck. The only one I've reacted to was the pneumococcal vacc, I had to support my arm for 24 hours because any movement was so painful.

I was wiped out for a day after the shingles jab but I was grateful to have it.

I've had both but not at the same time.
No problems with the Pneumonia jab at all, but not well for about 5 days after the 1st Shingles jab.

Same here. I felt no after effects following the pneumonia vaccine but the Shingles one which was done just a couple of months ago when I turned 70 did make me feel off colour for several days.

I missed out on getting the shingles jab last year as I was 65 in April. My GP told me I have to wait until I am 70 . I have a rare hereditary neurological condition so asked my neurologist if he could help me get it he tried but because my neurological condition wasn't on the list I couldn't have it . I had shingles this year but luckily got the anti virals within 24 hours which halted the spread of the rash after 2 days . Luckily I was already on nerve pain and general pain medication but had to increase my pain meds which helped. But I needn't have had shingles if they had let me have the jab last year.

Had my pneumonia jab last year you only need it once . Plus my covid and flu jabs. But I spread them out didn't want them all done together.

This year had my covid jab on Tuesday set my PAF off but within 30 mins my heart was back in rhythm, gave me a sore arm until Friday . So when I had my flu jab on Thursday had it in the other arm apart from a sore arm for a couple of days have been fine.

I told my brother to get his shingles jab as he was 65 this year which he has had and his flu one .

As long as I can get jabs I will have them . Had covid last year but apart from being very tired and my limbs hurting more than usual . Having the jabs lessoned my symptoms.

For anyone who is allergic to egg make sure whether the jabs have been made using egg albumen. They do make ones without. Plus the shingles anti virals are made with egg albumen but they do have ones without.

A friend of mine had shingles and the anti virals made her so ill she ended up in hospital because she is allergic to eggs . I only found out about the egg albumen after she had them so past on the information to her. She had shingles nearly 2 months ago and still suffering the effects of anti virals .

If you have any allergies to things always check what jabs and tablets don't contain things that will harm you .

But I stress take the anti virals if you aren't allergic to eggs as they do help . But get the shingles jab if you can it doesn't stop you getting it but stops you having all the nerve pain and shortens the how long you have it plus get the anti virals within 72 hours of the rash.

I had the single shingles vaccine, no reaction at all, same with the pneumonia one. I really think it's pot luck. I'm not able to have any injections in my left arm so it's always only one vaccine at a time for me as I'm not willing to chance two vaccines in the same arm at the same time. I'll not bother with the RSV (?) vaccine, that's been around forever and no problem except to very specified groups.

Two weeks ago I had the shingles and pneumonia jabs at the same time and last week I had flu and Covid at the same time.
No reactions.
I think it’s pot luck as to how you react unless you already have other illnesses or problems that could effect the outcome.

I had the second jab on Thursday, and am also feeling grim. The injection site is very sore, and I feel wiped out. I was due to have a B12 jab at the same time, but the nurse said it would be better to separate them, so I got the B12 and left the shingles one for a week or so. I'm so pleased I did, as B12 jabs are quite painful (although there are no lasting side effects), and having both at once would have been awful.

I found last night in bed that putting the electric blanket on high and lying with the injection site on it soothed it a bit, if that helps anyone. I'm sure any source of direct heat would do the same.

I had my second Shingirix Shingles jab on Wednesday and on Thursday I felt so ill. Obviously my arm was painful with a large red lump about 2 inches diameter, but the worst thing was that every inch of my body hurt - like the very worst heavy-duty 'flu. Paracetamol wouldn't touch it.

I had this for 5 days with the first Shingles jab but I was hoping the 2nd one wouldn't be as bad.

I do have 13 other health conditions including fairly severe M.E.

Today, Friday, the pain is slightly less thank goodness.

I had no problems with the Pneumonia vax last year, nor with the 'Flu jab.

Yes I’ve had pneumonia and shingles jab on the same day - no problems at all

Cabbie21 Thu 05-Sept-24 22:03:42

What is RSV jab for? Is it flu?
I think I have been offered flu, pneumonia and shingles all together, but I had the shingles jab a couple of years ago. I shall ask.

Kate1949 Thu 05-Sept-24 15:19:31

My husband had the RSV jab this morning. I am having mine Monday.

We've had, no I'll effects.

NotAGran55 Thu 05-Sept-24 14:07:22

My husband had them both on Monday this week, different arms, with no ill effects.

We both had the flu and Covid jabs last year on the same day , and will be doing same again in October.

I have heard of it, it’s been on the news regularly lately, I’m not old enough to have it though.

OldFrill

If you don't want it don't have it. I'm older than you and won't get offered shingles for a few more years, I'd rather like it now.

OldFrill, I am in the group of folk 'jumped over' aged 66 - 69 (I think). My PNurse recommended I look into getting the Shingles jab because of history of lung infections, asthma and pneumonia. I just phoned the Vaccination Centre for advice and they said, as I thought, I don't qualify. They DID however, suggest I ask for an AD HOC referral from my Doctor. Hope this information helps those of us in this situation.
