I will go back or phone 111 if I have to.

It wouldn't be the first time I've been given the wrong diagnosis, so I'm on guard.

If it doesn’t improve please don’t leave it take your self to A and E I don’t know if it happens everywhere but our local A and E has a fast track for less serious problems (ie your leg is not hanging off ) where you go into a different building next door and see an on call GP, it’s a very good system if you have a less obvious problem
I really don’t think that nurse sounds very professional

If it doesn't clear up I would insist on seeing a GP. and if she told you rudely to be quiet I would speak to the practice manager...

Oh she did ask if I have any flu-like symptoms

She measured the big leg and the smaller one, which is swollen anyway.
Took my blood pressure and said that the fluid pills I'm on will take down any swelling.
Said she could up the dose, but I told her the gastroenterology person has said a higher dose could damage my kidneys.

Then she told me to be quiet because she was reading.
Then asked if I had moisturiser I could use, and asked if I have heart failure.

Then said to elevate my legs, thank you and goodbye.

did the nurse say on what she based her differential diagnosis, ie how did she know it was definitely not ?

Well, the nurse was emphatic that it isn't cellulitis.

So, in effect, I'll be doing what I first thought.

Managing it, keeping an eye on myself.

If you do not get medical attention, and fast, you could end up with sepsis.

Glad that you have good news. Please keep an eye on it though, just for peace of mind.

Glad to hear it’s not cellulitis. I wonder if it could be what is known as “Disney rash” or “Golfers rash”? It can develop in warm weather if you have been on your feet a lot, and is called excercise-induced vasculitis, and appears as a red, sometimes itchy rash on the lower legs.
I’ve had it a couple f times many years ago, and a friend who mine gets it quite frequently too. It usually disappears after a few days with no lasting effects.

I`m so pleased that you haven`t got cellulitis, MissAdventure.
I`ve had what I`ve been told is cellulitis since last September. It started with water seeping from both calves. The district nurse who calls on my daughter bandaged up both legs and arranged for regular visits from them.
Whilst I was in hospital over Christmas and New Year, they decided that the bandages weren`t needed anymore and they were removed, and it was true, both legs had dried up completely. However, at the beginning of February, one leg began seeping again, was re-bandaged, but shows no sign of healing up, although it`s blood and gungy stuff now, not water, that is coming out.
There was talk of support stockings, or wraps, being tried, but the heart failure nurses have vetoed that idea due to my heart condition, so I`ll just have to put up with the flipping bandages!

Surely “blood and gunk” might indicate an infection.

Don’t be fobbed off, go back and have it checked out again.

So, moisturising cream has been prescribed.

I feel a bloody fool now.

I've had it about 7 yearS and it was secondhand when I bought it.

She didn't actually say.
Just said to go back if it doesn't go away (which i,know it won't)

It certainly could have been When I had it it started in the foot and went up my leg by the knee with the first lot of anti biotics just over the knee while on them so on stronger ones. After a few days up to my thigh and into A and E for intravenous anti biotics and only then did it start going down
Don’t ever feel a fool better to be wrong than have sepsis and be no more

You need to get antibiotics. Cellulitis can be very serious if left untreated. I once had it in my leg, but then a few years ago had it in my face - the GP made an emergency appointment and I was put on 2 different types of antibiotics
