I think I have it in one of my legs, but I don't really know how to "manage" it.

Is it feasible that I can stop it, or heal it myself, seeing as I'm aware, please, does anyone know?

Grateful for any advice, unless it's "Go to the doctor!"

Obviously I will, if necessary.

Doctor or even A&E
It needs a/b’s, possibly IV depending on your age, health and the seriousness.
I was seen within two hours when I contacted my GP online with a photo of the cellulitis on my face.
Just to cheer you up, the 51 year old daughter of one of my closest friends died of sepsis about a month ago, she had resisted going into hospital (as advised) with Cellulitis as she had no one to look after her elderly poorly cat. Eventually taken in by ambulance and died less than a week later.
See a doctor- not just a phone call, send them a picture.

smile
Thanks.
Seriously, I do mean that.

Does it spontaneously just happen, would you know?

I can't see any breaks in the skin, but this one leg has been swollen for a while.

GP or A & E asap. You need antibiotics.

OldFrill Thu 18-Jul-24 11:42:45

Don't dilly dally about on here. The faster it's treated the easier it's treated. Good luck

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 11:43:08

Thank you, too, Cressida

GP is you can, if not A&E. My DH had a 'funny mark' on his calf, asked the pharmacist while he was in there buying something, pharmacists told him to go to A&E as it looked like cellulitis. He also suggested drawing a ring around it so that you can measure/demonstrate how it has spread.

Appointment with a nurse at 2.45 this afternoon. smile

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 11:51:54

Hmm... mine is more like a painful rash all over my lower leg, rather than a mark.

All will be revealed when the nurse has a look, anyway.
It's burning and aching.

Aveline Thu 18-Jul-24 12:06:39

I'm glad you're seeing a nurse pronto. Hope all goes well and it's treated quickly and easily.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 12:10:36

Thanks.
Also thanks for giving me a virtual kick up the backside, all. thanks

Sweetpeasue Thu 18-Jul-24 13:04:32

Hope all goes well Miss A.

Astitchintime Thu 18-Jul-24 13:09:39

Hope all goes well with your appointment MissA. As other GNetters have said, you need antibiotics flowers

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 13:20:06

Ah, thank you.
I don't think it looks so bad now. blush

I always talk myself out of appointments, but I am still going anyway.

welbeck Thu 18-Jul-24 13:26:01

is it spreading across the skin, or swelling out the calf.
is it bigger than the other one.
in either case i'd go straight to A&E.
i've seen soft tissue infection close up; don't delay.
it can gallop into something much more serious.
all the best, and let us know how you get on.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 13:30:08

Ooh yes.
I've just checked the back of my leg and it's all around the bottom.
Almost as,if I've had ankle socks on, because my foot is normal (but swollen)

I'll be really embarrassed if I have to update later and say nothing was wrong... blush

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 13:31:42

Here

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 13:33:49

Don't people who had on about their ailments get on your pip.

Here is the front grin

loopyloo Thu 18-Jul-24 13:34:29

No, see doctor. You need antibiotics.
This happened to my daughter last week. The sooner you are treated the better.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 13:35:49

I've an appointment in an hour with the nurse.

welbeck Thu 18-Jul-24 13:37:10

go to A&E.
they can do a proper assessment, with blood work etc.
that can't be done today by a practice nurse at GP's.
also full obs over a few hours to check your general condition.
esp as you've had/ do have underlying health issues.

welbeck Thu 18-Jul-24 13:39:21

and it's not as if there's someone responsible at home to keep a watchful eye on you, is there.
if we were there, it'd be different, but we're not.
we care about you. don't take any risks, please.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 13:42:06

Ah, what a lovely thing to say.
Thank you smile
I'm quite sensible myself, I think.

Im sure i can manage myself, honestly.

Aveline Thu 18-Jul-24 13:51:48

Do let us know how you get on with the practice nurse.

RosiesMaw2 Thu 18-Jul-24 13:52:54

First time DH had it a dr drew round the outline of the affected area with a felt tip and said he should check if it grew beyond what he had marked. It was a simple and relatively foolproof way to check if it was increasing (it was)
