Does the COVID vaccination, quite tangentially, protect us from other virus infections?

Last night, I was feeling a bit weepy and shaky, and when I woke this morning I was/am feeling throughly under the weather. I have done a COVID test and that has come out negative, so clearly I have picked up some other wandering virus.

DH and I were then talking and I commented that this is the first random bug I had caught, probably, in over a year, and DH realised it was the same for him. Usually I will pick up several 'bugs' over the winter.

We have both had all our COVID jabs and I am left wondering whether the COVID jab, not only offers protection against COVID, but, quite by chance, other viral infections as well.

Primrose53 Unless there is clear evidence that the two are linked, given the number of people vacinated and the incidence of blood clots, statistically it is possible for these two events to happen close together, even simultaneously without there being any connection between the two.

No, it doesn't make we wonder. You are on Gransnet, so I assume you are, at the youngest late 50s, probably older. You have reached the age where we begin to develop symptoms for medical problems we have not had before, palpitations is one of them.

The cause could be stress, it could be heart disease, but so many people are developing this all the time that some people, just by chance are going to develop them shortly after they have had the COVID jab,

But as I said palpitations can be something trivial or something serious, so the only sensible thing to do is to see your GP and let them order tests as required. That way you will get reassurance if the problem is trivial and treatment if it is not.

I am 81.i have spoken to my Dr and he suggested a 48!hour heart monitor which I will have when they send for me
He said my heart is fine could be stress ornxiety as I am looking after my son who had a stroke about 18 months ago.
My blood pressure is quite low sometimes too

By the way I felt fine after last COVID vax.this has started just recently.i sometimes get a sudden jolt.which makes it worse as feel like a panic attack is coming on

veejay I am nearly 51, and coincidently , I too have had mild palpitations and heart symptoms. I am pretty sure mine are stress as they have cleared up in the lasy few months as the stresses on me reduced.

Same here VeeJay. I've had the cough from hell over the past two months and it's still clinging on. I'm convinced it's whooping cough as my symptoms were identical.
I did a covid test which was negative. Whether the covid jabs have any bearing on other viruses, I just don't know, but would suspect probably not.
