Prolapse -Rectocele

Just had a ‘doughnut’ pessary fitted by a specialist gynae nurse to see if it has any effect on my rectocele. Really, really, really don’t want to go down the surgical route so fingers (& everything else) crossed! 🤞🤞🤞

I wouldn't discount surgery altogether,
I've had both surgeries, first one was my bladder. You could actually see it protruding out of my vagina. Surgery was the only option for me , it was successful. A few years later , I thought it had come back, but this time it was, rectocele prolapse. Again only option was surgery, it was successful. I need to be very careful though. No heavy lifting etc .

I have a prolapse, it’s a bladder one. Diagnosed a few years ago by the practice nurse and advised to do pelvic floor exercises. Then 3 years ago things started to get much worse. Had some blood spotting and pain.

Because of the blood I was referred to gynae’ at the hospital. In the event the Dr thought it was because everything was so dry, she wasn’t even able to do a proper smear test.

She referred me to see a consultant. He was very good. Confirmed a stage 2 prolapse. Mentioned surgery or a ring to hold everything up. But in the meantime to carry on with the exercises. He prescribed Estriol cream,daily for 2 weeks then twice a week. It comes with an applicator. Also Replens to be used daily. He said to get in touch when I want to have the ring fitted. I did research them and the results seem mixed. So at the moment I am carrying on with this.
I do hope you get something sorted out, it really drags you down.

I haven't had this problem but a colleague once did and she went onto a very high fibre diet as well as the measures you have been given.

I had an op about 14 years ago, mess to lift bladder and sort prolapse. It doesn’t work long term unfortunately. Doing regular pelvic floor exercises and have a pesssry ring, really think oestrogen should be given to all women over a certain age.
