Covid jab?

I’m undecided whether to have the Covid jab this year. I always have a bad reaction to it for a couple of days afterwards.
I shall have the flu one. Does anyone else feel the same?

Well I've not had any and never had COVID, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole

How do you know that you haven't had it?
Do you test?

It's just as well that many of the rest of us have had it then, Biscuitmuncher, so as to reduce the severity of any covid infection we get, and lessen the chance of our passing it on to you.

MrJ received his txt invite from the surgery earlier, both flu and covid booked for 18th October.
GreyKnitter over 65’s and some other categories.

I’ll def have it if offered. Did I hear that the covid jab is now for very specific groups and generally 75+? I always have anything that’s offered.

I've always had a jab that's on offer from a hospital or surgery even as a little girl. There was an occasion at primary school once when we all had our jabs before we went out to dance around the maypole - and the air was antiseptic!!! Later in secondary school we had jabs there too and a few of us had a reaction on the skin so the next day we were driven off to hospital to have an xray and another jab - I can't remember what it was all -about possibly TB -but it was great being away from school for an hour or two!!!

I had both together last year, as did my husband.

We will have both again if offered.

I have a Covid + flu jab booked together for mid October with my GP surgery. Slightly apprehensive as I haven't had the two done together before and have previously had them done as separate jabs at a local pharmy. My GP surgery say it's fine (they would wouldn't they) but I know someone who was very unwell with the combination. I'm dithering about cancelling the appointment but will probably stick with it and hope for the best.

I had the RSV jab on Thursday, felt fine for a couple of days then Sunday developed the head cold from hell, temperature, sore throat, runny nose, ear ache, sneezing... my first cold for years. I don't know if it's coincidental or a side effect from the jab.

Has anyone else had a similar reaction?

Jaxjacky Sun 15-Sept-24 11:18:25

Invite from our surgery a couple of weeks ago for both, booked in 25th October, although I’ll be having them separately.

Calendargirl Sun 15-Sept-24 10:42:28

I read that RSV is only being offered to those aged 70-79

No, it’s 75-79. Over 80’s it depends when you turned 80.

Shinamae Sun 15-Sept-24 10:33:31

Having a flu jab in October, no more Covid jabs for me…

Farzanah Sun 15-Sept-24 10:33:29

I usually have a reaction to vaccines for a couple of days, lethargy, pyrexia, sore arm etc. all to be expected I think and nothing serious. I’m not concerned because it shows my body is responding to the vaccine.

Much worse to get the actual illness, with chance of long covid. Covid is not a winter bug like flu. There have been a few surges throughout the year, but it is only able to be monitored through hospital admissions testing. (Independent Sage) Scotland were doing waste water testing, but think this is suspended just now.

I’m 76. I’ve been offered both the RSV and the COVID/flu vaccines. None of my over-80 friends have been offered RSV.

I take everything offered. Most of the time, I feel unwell for a day or two and have a sore-ish arm for a few days more

I read that RSV is only being offered to those aged 70 - 79.

All booked in in October. I usually have a reaction to the flu one, though DH does not.

Allsorts Sat 14-Sept-24 21:21:35

I wont be having another Covid jab, i felt so ill last time.

rafichagran Sat 14-Sept-24 21:16:37

I have decided after much thought I will not be having either, if I change my mind it will be the flu jab.

annodomini Sat 14-Sept-24 21:10:39

I'm so lucky - never had a reaction and the only time I got Covid, I didn't know I had it until I had to have a test prior to having a small procedure in hospital.

GrandmaKT Sat 14-Sept-24 20:53:28

I'm 65. I was offered a flu vaccination by my GP surgery, which I have booked for Oct 5th. No mention was made of Covid. I will ask when I go if I haven't heard anything before then.

Well if is only over 75s only my other half will qualify again, I am 67 nearly 68 but suppose that if I get it I will pass it on to my other half anyway and he has various health probs, as have I, but none that mean I get the jab apparently.
Last time I was in bed for nearly 3 weeks and felt wiped out for several months, thought I had long covid but the GP just thought I has post viral fatigue. So am not looking forward to the next covid surge this winter. At least I qualify for a flu jab.

I have just checked - it is over 65 and those aged 6 - 64 in high risk category

henetha Sat 14-Sept-24 20:28:54

I'm having both together in early October. I'm lucky to have no bad reactions yet.
I believe in vaccinations.

Calendargirl Sat 14-Sept-24 20:27:34

Thank you greenlady.

Lisaangel10 Sat 14-Sept-24 20:24:01

No thanks. Had the jabs, caught covid twice but just like a cold.
