Hi. I was wondering if any of you suffer a lot with migrains and if so, what works for you? Is there a good medicine that actually works? I get them almost daily and they not only give me a headache but also I feel washed out, weak and dizzy. I will speak to the doctor of course, but I thought I'd ask if there is hope for relief. Thank you so much.

I take Sumatriptan prescribed by GP along with Domperidone to prevent sickness.

You should see a doc asap

I take naramig prescribed by doctor. No OTC remedies have ever worked for me. Daily migraines really are something you should get checked out. I had a brain MRI last year and I have a new course of treatment.

Do you know what your triggers are? Mine have changed as I have got older. Smells have become a trigger when they never used to. Being over-tired is another trigger. Medication can be another one. I find it is a combination of more than one trigger that gives me a migraine.
I try to work out my triggers and avoid them as much as possible rather than take medication. I do still get migraines frequently though the pain is less severe than when I was young.

There are a number of new medications that can help and many hospitals have migraine clinics. My dd also finds a Tens machine very helpful. See your GP asap.

You really must see your GP - wishing you well flowers migraines are miserable aren't they.

Make an appointment asap with your GP and also, from today, keep a diary of what you think may trigger them: stress, pollen, barometer, weather etc. together with any other symptoms you may be feeling both physical and emotional. Present your doctor with the results of your diary so they can get a clearer picture of your day.

I would recommend seeing a doctor as they will check other causes. It’s possible that you need to have your BP checked and medication prescribed or adjusted. Don’t delay.

I take a low dose of Amitriptyline each night (10 grams only) I’ve been doing this for the past twenty years and almost never get a full blown migraine. I used to get two a week. Sometimes I can feel one coming on but it doesn’t develop. The amitriptyline makes you feel awful when you first take it but your body soon adapts. Hope this helps. It’s worth a try. Migraines are such miserable things

I’m pretty sure all of us here with migraine have been through the mill and gone to go for a regimen. Mine includes Topirimate, sumatriptan, propanalol and avoiding known triggers. I have suffered since childhood and feel for you.
Maybe you are suffering cluster headaches also. But do go and get diagnosed and a prescription that is tailored to you.

I found that chocolate and red wine seemed to trigger one for me.. but there was probably stress as well

Those were my triggers. I was plagued by them until the menopause and they suddenly stopped.

I had one, when seriously ill in hospital. All hell let loose and I was rushed off to have scans, despite me saying this was the norm for me.
It was indeed a migraine and I was so relieved to find there was nothing sinister.

Op, you really need to see a doctor to rule out other causes.

I have suffered with terrible migraines since I was about 15. I don't seem to have a food trigger, but stress/anxiety sets .
me off. The migraines last about 3 days, with another 3 days to recover, as they wipe me out completely.

I now take 1 Propanalol (40mg) every night , as a preventative. It does seem to help, but there is the added problem of weight gain , which is why I refused it before.

If I catch the migraine soon enough ( ie when I just have the flashing lights, before the pain starts), I take Sumatriptan. I then have to take Lansoprazole to counter the sickness.
If not, I alternate co-codamol 30/500 with Ibuprofen, and wait for it to pass.

I have seen the Dr numerous times over the years, been hospitalised twice, had 2 brain scans, and all they say is "You have migraine"!

You have my sympathy beautybumble, hope you find something to help. xx

I suffered from migraines for years but it was always worse when I was away from home.
Eventually the cause was traced to artificial sweeteners, which are in everything nowadays. I now avoid them and hardly ever suffer.
You need to find the cause of your pain. We are all different and only a professional can really help.

Speaking to a doctor is definitely the no 1 thing you should do, especially if migraines are a new thing for you. A Dr can make sure that is the correct diagnosis and you can then look at treatments.

I’ve never really found for my migraines although missing a meal can start one off. I get spells of having them daily then I don’t have one for ages. There’s no rhyme nor reason to it.

There’s a report today on the BBC about medications. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y3xw5yn85o
