I have a small wart under my nose (diagnosed by doctor). No funding available, apparently, to have it removed on the NHS. Have looked online at wart removal creams and the like. Has anyone used something that has been successful? I'm starting to feel a bit self-conscious.

Wart remover - is there one that works?
(44 Posts)I've suddenly got a wart on my thumb where I hold the dog lead. I'm sure it's a wart because there is a little black seed head.
Interested to hear remedies.
I spoke to the pharmacist about one I had, mainly because I was concerned about buying an over the counter cream, when I am on a multitude of medications.
He was able to give me something.
If nothing else works, Skydancer, time will do the trick in the end, not that that will be much consolation just now, I suppose!
If you asked the GP to have it removed privately because it teally bothers you will he decide to arrange it I wonder?
I know it was years ago but aving been told "no" I asked my GP about going privately (for something else) and he said well if you are this worried about it I can refer you. And he did.
A beauty therapist might remove it for you.
Over-the-counter salicylic acid treatments are effective for many common warts. Apply as directed on the packaging and be patient, as it can take weeks to see results. For stubborn warts, try freezing treatments with liquid nitrogen, available from a doctor. For persistent warts, consult a dermatologist who may recommend stronger treatments like cantharidin or surgical removal. Remember, warts often resolve on their own over time, but treatment can speed the process and prevent spreading.
I would be wary of messing about with it under my nose tbh.
Get someone professional to do it I'd say.
I would consult a local beauty therapist rather than trying to do it yourself, to be honest, especially as it's on your face. Just make sure you find one who is qualified in that particular line. Many are now - my local one has had excellent results with people wanting that kind of treatment now that it's no longer provided on the NHS.
I had various warts come up on my face. GP arranged for them to be tested as I have previously had Basal carcinomas removed from my face. These all came back as 'nothing to be concerned about, so no removal under NHS. One, did really worry me -it was on the tip of my nose and looked like a 'drip'. Highly embarrassing!
At one point last year I was so fed up with this that I sterilised a pair of scissors and cut it off. Did bleed rather profusely. Sadly, a couple of weeks later, it reformed and eventually I went back to the GP. Think he was so concerned at something hitting the local press about 82 year old pensioner performing minor surgical procedures in her own home, that he did refer me on to dermatologist for removal. Lovely lady at local hospital, looked at other warts clustered on my cheek and said how quick it would be for her to remove them all, but was not permitted to do so.
These distressed me much, found myself covering my cheek with my hand whenever I was talking to someone, that I decided to use some savings and have them dealt with privately,. My daughters found suitably qualified local beautician and she did the lot (about five) in one go for a total cost of £350. She used some sort of instrument, which (I think) burnt them o Worked perfectly and she checked it all again some six weeks later.
Was worth the money - but I still feel that something like this on the fact which was a disfigurement, should have been dealt with under NHS.
Sorry this does not answer the query of something we can purchase OTC to treat this = I would be interested to hear if there was anything really tried and trusted
I do have very vague memories of my Dad tying off, with cotton, warts on my fingers when I was a small child and they all fell off in due course.
I had an ugly one on my leg and kept applying tea tree oil daily and it worked!
I had a wart on my bottom lip of all places! I didnt dare put anything on it myself as it was on my mouth. I had a dental appointment before I could get a GP appointment. The dentist arranged for me to have it removed, but not before I had a wedding to attend. I avoided all cameras and the photographer.
I'm currently treating a wart on my finger with Bazuka that verruca. (it is for warts too) Can't see much improvement to be honest. Anyway the point of my post is that of all the ones I looked at, every treatment said not suitable for face or genital area. These obviously need a professional to deal with them.
I never had a single wart as a child, why do I need to start now I'm an aged grandmother?
Interesting what Rosie says about OTC treatments NOT to be used on face, etc. When I saw the minor surgical doctor at my GP Practice about that one on my nose, he told me had to refer me to the local hospital as no mnor surgery was permitted on face or hands.
The white sap from a dandelion stem worked for me. It dries a brown colour so easily camoflages.
I recently had one on my cheek - GP said to think of it as a character feature! I felt like a warty old witch! I used tea tree cream. All gone in two weeks.
I had two warts and tried all the conventional applications suggested above and kept trying over a long period but none of them worked. Then my GP said she couldn't officially suggest this, but several patients had said to her that a homeopathic treatment worked, so I decided to try. It worked. It was drops called Thuja. I hope this will help.
Hi I was told once to rub raw potatoe on ever day apparently it's the starch .😊
Applegran I was just going to suggest Thuja. You can take it internally as well, in the form of homeopathic remedies. :-)
When the NHS would still remove these, my husband had one dealt with in seconds with liquid nitrogen. It took a couple of weeks to drop off and heal, but has never come back. He needs treatment for another that keeps getting knocked and bleeds - consulted a local aesthetic medical practice, run by doctors who quoted over £1000. I’m interested to hear that good beauticians can do this - we will try going down this route now.
I had a small wart on the top of my foot. I read that putting the inside of a banana skin onto the wart and putting a plaster on would do the trick.
I cut about an inch square of banana skin every night as I went to bed, popped a plaster over it and after a few days it had gone!
My daughters hands were covered in warts when she was little. Some embedded under her skin around her nails. I tried absolutely everything on the market, eventually I read about Cheladonium. I could only order it through a chemist or on the Internet. I used to put some on a cotton bud and wipe over the wart and leave on. The next night I would file the wart very gently with an emery board and then put the chelidonium on again, repeat this every night, filing before application. When I also got a wart on my nose I did the same thing and it worked again. Miracle!
I had one on my bottom eyelid. I could see it all the time as it was in my line of vision. Optician offered to refer me to eye hospital which I agreed would be happy with. I never even got to see a doctor as it was deemed “cosmetic” and not “ likely” to be cancerous. It grew rapidly obscuring my vision. It bled overnight one night. I spoke briefly to a consultant eye surgeon who quoted me £1000 for removal. I said I would think about it!
I have used both Thuja cream and drops. Excellent.
It also safe for animals as our border collie used to get a lot of warts.
I had a large seborrheic wart on my cheek that was deemed by the GP to be unimportant but it was all I could see on my face for years. 10 months ago I had it removed by a qualified beautician with a freezing pen that burnt it. It came off within a week. I had another session after 4 weeks. The skin was initially quite red but soon went pink and now is probably unnoticeable to others. Total cost was £100 (and she did another smaller one too). I am very happy with the results.
