Well, that’s a wonderful excuse for putting off my dentist Redcar who’s been hassling me re routine check ups. Got another month’s grace!

Charleygirl5 Sat 18-Jan-25 18:31:03

As usual, we are on our way out, so I thought I would bump this up in case it could not be found easily.

silverlining48 Sat 18-Jan-25 18:49:41

Hello 🙋‍♂️

silverlining48 Sat 18-Jan-25 18:50:13

I am so sick of soft food

silverlining48 Sat 18-Jan-25 18:50:52

I realise because there is no texture …

silverlining48 Sat 18-Jan-25 18:51:18

It’s just soft and pappy and tastes the same, whatever it is

Aveline Sat 18-Jan-25 20:51:15

I hope you'll be able to manage more interesting food soon.

silverlining48 Sat 18-Jan-25 21:00:05

Thanks Aveline. I did have a jacket potato with cheese and beans the other day, I couldn’t eat the skin but it was the nicest meal I have had all week.

Charleygirl5 Sat 18-Jan-25 22:36:48

I love scrambled eggs with a lot of cheese. That is very tasty, as is my spag bol with more than a splash of red wine added.

For how much longer are you eating mush?

silverlining48 Sat 18-Jan-25 22:47:54

I shoukd be back to normal eating next week Charleygirl. Can’t come too soon. Soft food all tastes the same, just squishy squashy same. Dull, boring and really unappetising…..
I should not complain, will get myself to bed. Perchance to dream, …..of a roast dinner perhaps. . 😋 very soon hopefully.
Night all zzzzzz

grammargran Sat 18-Jan-25 23:35:06

Bailey’s ice cream, sweet dreams everyone ….

silverlining48 Sun 19-Jan-25 14:28:31

Now ice cream is quite another matter…. it doesn’t fill you up, but it’s lovely

Charleygirl5 Sun 19-Jan-25 15:37:49

I prefer ice cream on sticks, and I look out for bargains online or in-store when I shop.

silverlining48 Sun 19-Jan-25 15:54:28

Last time I licked an ice cream my jaw locked. It’s locked many times over the years, til last week when I had an operation. Hence soft food. Ugh!
I can’t risk it happening again so I have ice cream in a littke pot and use a spoon.

Nannytopsy Mon 20-Jan-25 20:48:48

I made a bit of a mistake over the weekend, dropping my codeine based painkillers because of the associated constipation. Now, I am struggling to get back on top of knee pain. I think it is now hurting again because it has swollen up. 😡 Grr

silverlining48 Mon 20-Jan-25 21:01:06

You are right to be careful of coediene, can you max out n paracetamol and ibuprofen?

Grammaretto Mon 20-Jan-25 21:01:49

Sorry to hear that . Nannytopsy
Codeine is constipating so I recommend oatbran for breakfast (sprinkle on cereal) prunes and if that's not enough then daily sennacot. .
You want to avoid pain.

I forgot my stick today and was halfway down the street before I noticed. So I must be healing.

I also had a cheering visit from my DH's brother and sister. We shared a bottle of prosecco - our New Year.

grammargran Mon 20-Jan-25 22:37:56

Forgot your stick and you were halfway down the street before you noticed?! You must be Superwoman, Grammaretto totally in awe. Yesterday I managed a whole flight of stairs normally, slowly and pulling myself up, but using both legs - another Hope your knee improves Nannytopsy, keep up with the paracetamol, I didn’t get on with codeine at all for the same reason.

Charleygirl5 Mon 20-Jan-25 22:46:02

I hate to put a downer on things but please be careful taking Paracetamol because it can affect your digestive system.

Aveline Tue 21-Jan-25 07:46:57

Well done Grammaretto- forgetting your stick is a positive moment. You're obviously recovering very well. My DD had a hip replacement the week before Christmas and is back to normal she says: no sticks, out driving etc. Some people recover very quickly. Others take longer. Whatever is best for you all as individuals is best !

Grammaretto Tue 21-Jan-25 08:13:12

Excellent progress grammargran !
You'll be running up those stairs soon.

My late DH couldn't take opioids either. He would hallucinate!

I alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen but have a tramadol at night to help me sleep. I hope to wean myself off them all as soon as possible.

I'm as surprised as anyone by the speed of recovery. Hips are easier than knees I'm told.
I cancelled, with a heavy heart, my cataract operation in early Feb.
I just couldn't imagine being able to get to Livingston by 8am despite the cheery appointments secretary saying she did it by bus everyday and she lives in my town.
Ah well, just wait young lady until you are old and slow. 🙄

Well done your DD Aveline

Charleygirl5 Tue 21-Jan-25 08:55:46

Grammaretto How would you pay because it is too early for your bus pass to start? I have not forgotten the time I had to travel daily across London to be at work by 7:30 a.m., and in those days, I thought nothing of it because I was fit and able, unlike now.

It may be better to fully recover from your last major surgery without contemplating more. Hopefully it will be warmer when you next receive a date.

Aveline Tue 21-Jan-25 09:09:35

Maybe a friend or family member would offer a lift? Otherwise the hospital might organise transport. I know a person near Grammaretto was given taxi transport to and from cataract op. No charge.

Redcar Tue 21-Jan-25 11:14:32

You’re doing so well grammaretto, probably best to cancel the cataract operation.
I can’t take opioids either, I hallucinate on them. I won’t take cocodamol because of the constipation, so just have paracetamol occasionally.
grammargran well done for mastering the stairs! I can come down them “normally” but going up is a real struggle, so I still do one step at a time. I try to go up normally every few days and I’ll get there eventually. I drove this morning for the first time, so feeling very pleased with myself. I didn’t go far, but enough to give me confidence boost. Walked about half a mile yesterday, with crutches, but progress just the same.

Redcar Tue 21-Jan-25 11:16:27

aveline well done to your DD!
