silverlining Could a total technophobe like me have a clue how it works? It may give me the incentive to walk more than a few steps. I can just manage 1/4 mile with a couple of stops and a seat if there is an available wall. This old-age lark is really not for me.

I really need to be able to put more than keys etc on the basket and living in London I hide everything except my shopping.

I have a fit bit watch grammaretto, it does much the same as an Apple but is quite a bit cheaper. Best of all it has a large face so I don’t need to put glasses on to read the time.

I’m a very cool 85-year old Grammaretto, I have an Apple Watch with loads of programmes counting everything from the number of hours slept, through the range of beats per minute of your heart to the number of steps as you trip along through your day. I just check them before I fall into bed. Really down today, barely 2000 but I’ve got a couple of hours to go yet!

charleygirl my rollator has 4 wheels, some have 3 wheels but don’t seem as stable. Mine also has a seat which lifts up, the shopping basket underneath is big enough to hold my handbag, or purse, keys & phone, plus a few bits of shopping. But it’s quite bulky even when folded, I can walk further and faster with it, so it has its uses! Good luck with your search!

How do you count steps? Grammargran Do you have a counter?
It sounds a lot.
I walked about half a mile today and was quite tired, but yesterday I probably did about 10 times that, with a friend round the Botanic Gardens. I didn't notice it really . We chatted away and admired the plants.
I wish the photo-ability on here was available I would show you some.

I am bumping this up so others may find us if they wish.

I think a folding rollator is next on my list, but I must look and see if it is what I need. I cannot make up my mind whether I need a folding seat or if it just adds more bulk. My car will be going soon, which is why I am looking now.

I do not want to spend every penny I possess on minicabs.

I managed a fairly long walk yesterday, but using the rollator because I was shopping and it’s difficult to carry shopping when you use two walking sticks. I only use sticks etc because I have a problem with my spine which means I’m in pain most of the time. At home and in the garden I don’t use any kind of walking aid.
Well done grammaretto, lucky there was a nice young man to pick up your walking pole for you.
grammargran that’s brilliant, 8000 steps! The most I’ve done is 5500. Good to have been able to have a day out in London.
As you say, the spring flowers are coming out, the sun has been shining, so Spring may be on the way and things are looking up. I certainly feel more inclined to go out for a walk if the sun’s out.

I managed a fairly long walk today. The weather was good. Sunny but cold. I took my walking poles and was glad of them although I dropped one several times. A nice young man picked it up each time. 🤣😂

Goodness, ladies, we’re really slipping down the charts so I thought I’d try to give us a leg up(!). DDs gave us a day in London earlier in the week, severely tested my stamina but just the boost I needed. My step count went up to over 8000 and distance 5km+. And I came through, exhausted but happy with the result. Fifteen weeks behind me and now entering into Spring, things are looking up. How is it going for the rest of you? Updates, please!

Hi Sealover glad you are feeling more confident about things.
I used to have times when my hip didn’t hurt so much and wondered whether I actually needed surgery, but then the pain returned particularly after I had a guided steroid injection which made things much worse. I was unlucky.
Because it’s a pain only we can feel it’s an operation which is up to the patient to decide but by putting it off that could complicate the surgery.
I am so glad I had it done because I like to walk and wasn’t able to do this for so long, but am back to it now without pain. Fit as a flea, that’s me.

My spinal was planned but with the proviso that if it didn’t go in, then they would do a general. It went in at the 3rd try but there was no pain because they used a morphine local first.

All this is so reassuring, I've got 19 weeks to wait, unless I get a cancellation after the pre op in May. My Consultant is not at the private hospital I've been referred to (NHS pathway) too often. I feel very confident with him, he seems to be popular. I dislike the expression, 'it is what it is', but it is! My DH had a spinal for a prostate procedure a few years ago and was totally traumatised by what seems to have been an incompetent anaesthetist. It took a few goes to get the needle in. This rather prays on my mind. Today I've hardly got any pain, leading me to think, do I really need this? DH reminds me how my life has shrunk somewhat. I really appreciate all the comments on here, so encouraging.

I drifted off into a lovely refreshing sleep every time I had a spinal with sedation and woke up in recovery room feeling fine. Absolutely nothing to fear from this firm if anaesthesia.

I certainly wouldn’t want to be awake during the operation and wasn’t thank goodness, but my sedation must have been fairly light as I woke straight after it ended while still in the theatre. Heard nothing saw nothing, and that’s the way I wanted it.
