Feeling rather sorry for myself as been ill for nearly a week, a cold went to pneumonia. Got anti biotics then got a different anti biotic. On my own and got very little energy to even open a tin of soup. Did ask my separated husband if he could fetch me and he said he didnt want to catch it...... Silly to ask him really but I was desperate. Just hope that I am going to start to feel better soon.

Sending kindest thoughts to you flowers

How miserable for you, I hope you'll be feeling stronger soon. Hot drinks & soup, soft bread & butter, keep taking the tablets. It will pass, just try to stay warm and comfortable.

It will take a little while for the antibiotics to kick in. Stay warm and rest. Keep drinking even if you have no appetite for food. You will feel better before too long.

It's awful feeling really ill and being alone.
I hope that second lot of antibiotics will work, and you'll start feeling better.

Do "keep an eye" on yourself though, and phone 111 if you still feel so rough after a couple of days. flowers

Are you near London?

welbeck Mon 30-Dec-24 16:06:42

Which part of the country are you in OP ?

welbeck Mon 30-Dec-24 16:09:27

Sorry my first message didn't post.
Then it did. Unseen by me.
Didn't mean to sound like an interrogation.
At risk of which . . .
Where did you want him to fetch you to from ?

wintersday Mon 30-Dec-24 16:27:21

Thank you for your replies. I am in Derbyshire and husband lives in next town about 4 miles away.

welbeck Mon 30-Dec-24 16:30:02

Do you have any other friends acquaintances neighbours who might be able to help you?
People are often willing to help ad hoc for a temporary situation.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 30-Dec-24 16:42:44

Can a neighbour or friend get you some Ensure boxes of food?
They will make sure you have some nourishment and liquid for the time being.
If I remember they don’t need to be refrigerated and can stay at your bedside.
Hope you soon improve.

My friend has brought me some shopping, flowers and tins of soup etc. Another friend brought me a xmas meal which I struggled with as no appetite but very kind of her. What I have really needed is someone to just open the soup and warm it up as it is just so much effort and I am worn out. But I dont like to ask but hoped someone would realise how I feel and help anyway. My neighbours are young, one side in particular is in a world of her own. Nearly asked other side if I could get in their spare bed and they look after me but I dont think they would have known what to say - would have been daft to say that. I have lived here 31 years so it would be nice to be able to ask a neighbour on the street for help. I have got Clarithromycin, started taking Friday, then 2 Sat, 2 Sun and I have 8 left to take, 2 a day. Before these I had a course of Amoxicillin and had to finish those whilst taking the new ones. I did ring docs today and they said if I wasnt feeling any better by Thurs to ring them. I do hope I will be feeling better soon.

Go onto Uber eats. Put in your address. You can get soup delivered.

Nightsky2 Mon 30-Dec-24 17:17:56

What about some cartons of soup that you can just heat up in the microwave. You could ask a friend to buy you a few cartons. You only need half so could have the other half the following day with some nice bread. Drink lots of water and maybe have some custard. Just simple foods till you’re feeling stronger.
Best wishes and I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry you’re feeling so rubbish. If you have Amazon prime, you can have groceries delivered through that too.
Sending hugs

Bad luck - it is horrible +being ill on your own. I hope the antibiotics kick in soon. flowers

welbeck Mon 30-Dec-24 23:25:54

I'm not sure you are well enough to be left on your own really.
You don't sound at all well.
Why don't you ring 111.
Then it's up to them.
Round here they can send out a rapid response team of specialist nurses whose aim is to monitor and treat at home wherever possible.
You can't go wrong ringing 111 especially being on your own.
Please report in to us tomorrow.
Night night.

I think wellbeck's advice is good. If you're no better today, please pick up the phone and dial 111, they won't think you're malingering!

Thanks for all your messages, makes me feel I am not alone. Did start to feel a bit better last night but struggling today. I emailed another friend - she is away at the moment and can help with shopping Fri but she said she is surprised they didnt take me into hospital being on my own and no one to look after me. No one at all mentioned hospital but perhaps I am better at home where there are less germs. When I got the appt at docs last Friday, I honestly dont know how I managed to get myself there in the car. Suppose you just manage and I told that doc that it is horrible being on your own and being ill so she knew my circumstances. Thanks again everyone.

You need humidity in your lungs OP. Drink plenty, include honey/ginger/lemon if you have any

Head over bowl of hot water, containing eucalyptus if you have any. A humidifier in your living room/bedroom, amazon do them for < £40

Stay put, you are better off at home and monitor your own oxygen level with an oximeter.

I’ve just recovered from pneumonia, also had 2 lots of antibiotics, took ages for the cough to dry up and then I had a painfully tight chest for days. I’ve just had a 2nd x Ray to check it’s all clear. Fortunately I had my OH to run around after me. Keep warm, hydrated and take lemsip or paracetamol , phone the docs if no better after taking the meds.

I'm very sorry that you have pneumonia .
It's a sign of being run down and your body not being able to cope with a cold .
It is horrendous and leaves you as weak as a kitten and feeling depressed because the slightest exertion is too much .

I suggest the following :
An anti pneumonia injection when you are better .
Steroids should have been prescribed with the antibiotics .
You might need a temporary inhaler -my neighbour did .
Vitamin supplements-Berocca is good .
Fresh soups if you can obtain them .
Otherwise canned soups . I add a natural antibiotic garlic. Chilli releases mucous .
Fresh or processed juices .
If you produce a lot of thick mucous then reduce your dairy intake .
I had whooping cough as a child and asthma as a result .
I seemed to out grow out of it then developed mature onset .
I'd have occasional bouts of pneumonia and pleurisy until late 2023 then five or six bouts .
I felt dreadful and I thought that I was dying .
Antibiotics ,steroids ,a steroid inhaler ,lots of rest and plenty of fluids have helped me .
When I'm tired I admit defeat and rest .
During the summer I got the following supplies in -canned foods and Coffeemate .just in case .
Please take great care and rest as much as possible.
It doesn't matter if you doze in front of the telly!
You will feel better .
It just takes time .
I wish you well .
Love ,
Esmay

Yes, or tea tree oil if you have some, but only a couple of drops as it's strong.

Stay warm, drink plenty and I hope the anti-biotics have started to work now. Don't hesitate to ring the GP or 111 if you don't feel better or get worse.
My friend had to have three courses of antibiotics before she felt better recently.

Hospitals here are overwhelmed at the moment with cases of 'flu so you are probably better at home unless absolutely necessary.
