Just as the subject thread says really.( I did post this on another excema related thread but don’t think it’s been seen so started my own).

When stressed I do get the odd patch of excema here and there which usually goes away after few days of applying E45 or similar. Late October 2024 family issues ( adult childs relationship over, awful things said, worrying over effect of it on grandchildren etc) caused me much upset and I developed a patch of excema and applied usual cream.

It did go away but then in early December returned-I think with all the continuous worry and added extra work to make sure that all was 'merry and bright' especially for the grandchildren.

It has now developed into (what after consulting Dr Google and NHS pages), looks like discoid excema.
Never had this before and tomorrow will go to pharmacy to collect BP meds and to talk to pharmacist about it as its been present for long enough and I think maybe a cortisoid cream will be required.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this and best way to prevent re-occurence- less stress might help I know but said adult child is now living back with us, with grandchildren seeing them and staying over regularly, mid week and every other Friday to Sunday.
It is lovely to see the children but its extra work for me as I seem to have become the person who sorts out the housekeeping issues before/during/after they are here...I'm mid 60's btw. Thankyou if you got to the end!

I had discoid eczema for years. Reducing stress is much easier said than done so physical treatments are important. I washed with Zerobase and applied it 2 to 3 times a day regularly plus a steroid cream from my gp which was stronger than the OTC ones. The advice from my GP was to use enough steroid cream to settle it quickly rather than using small amounts that wouldn’t touch it.

Oddly, since having a rare, generalised skin infection some years ago I’ve never had another outbreak.

Hope you get it settled soon.

I had it, lots of different places and some were a definite circular shape, on my face they weren't so I went through a number of possible diagnoses and various different medications. I was also going through a period of extreme stress, which I thought I was managing well but my skin told a different story!
I found using hydrating washes on my skin in the shower (dermol 500) and slathering it on after a shower worked well and I used Cetraben on the patches on my face. Cetraben is a greasy emollient, not a nice product to use but it did protect my face from the wind and weather and they healed up well. I still use it if I get any sign of something on my face.
I hope you find something that works for you, I struggled for nearly 8 months to find something, it was quite demoralising and the itching at night stopped me sleeping. fwiw I had several prescriptions from the GP including one that contained a low dose of a steriod, that did work to some extent but as soon as I stopped using it, the patches came back, so frustrating. I don't have the same level of stress now and all is fine, I hope you will be too.
