Sterilisation - filshie clip problem?

I fear you are deluding yourself if you think wiping castor oil over the relevant area would be any use at all.
Frankly that sounds like an old wives’ tale.
If you are really bothered, see a doctor and if necessary they will arrange something like an x ray.
But be prepared for suppressed snorts of laughter when you mention the castor oil.

Blowed if I can remember whether I was even told what they were made of - it was so many years ago and there was a bit of negligence at play anyway (ie they told me they'd use dissolvable stitches on me - and so I believed them). Cue for me cutting those stitches right down (to minimise the look of them) whilst I waited for them to dissolve - and then having to head to my doctor of the time when the area became painful and he told me they hadnt used dissolvable ones!!!!!! That wasnt funny - having to get out those non-dissolvable ones they'd inefficiently used instead! Being much younger and less cynical than now I didn't contact them about that........as the 70-something me most definitely would have done these days.

I remember the young girl that was talking to me about this showing me two of the clips and telling me that was what they'd use (I presume they got that bit right as per plan) and they were sorta like hairgrips with a clear plastic half and a metal half to the length of them. I don't remember that very clearly - as I was focusing more on the fact I had a cold and was due to have/did have the operation under general anaesthetic (as we'd been told we shouldnt have general anaesthetic if we had a cold - though I'd come to the conclusion "Well I'll either wake up done or wake up dead - either will do okay for me" and so had that general anaesthetic as per agreement).

The incidence of sterilisation clip migration is reportedly 25%. However, less than 1% of those who experience clip migration will present with pain, an abscess, or spontaneous extrusion. When they do the clip has usually migrated to the pelvic floor/bladder area.

Self-diagnosis is foolish. A pain near the umbilicus is much more likely to be something else. The organs lying behind the unbilicus include the small and large intestines, the stomach, and the pancreas. See a doctor.

Guessing "spontaneous extrusion" means = unexpectedly coming to the surface?

After those dissolvable stitches that turned out not to be = I did get stitch threads occasionally surfacing at bellybutton level and I think there must be some sort of "ball" of those darn stitches on the other side of my bellybutton that a bit of stitches has come out through before now and I could/still can see a tiny little black dot in the middle of a tiny boil-like lump there that has been there all along since the op. and a couple of times squeezing (as per like a spot) has brought a trail of white pus out of it and the discomfort there has stopped. Guess it's also possible that there's a little ball of undissolved stitches under this recent bigger lump and maybe there'll be more of the same (albeit years later) and out might come a bit of those stitches and/or pus and then it calms back down again??

FGS stop guessing and see your doctor. We are not medically qualified to diagnose your problem.

Are you serious about the castor oil !? Are you for real ?

Go to see your GP asap and he/she will either diagnose the problem or refer you. If it's a clip that has moved, it could probably be easily removed in surgery.
One of my DC had a fracture pinned and the pins started to work their way out. Fifteen minutes in surgery under anaesthetic and they were removed.

Oh yes, dissolvable stitches, I think we all know they don't always dissolve! You may need antibiotics.

I got sterilised with a tubal litigation operation about 40 years ago and it obviously worked - as no pregnancies at all ever.

I gather these clips they use to clip together the relevant tube can migrate - and often do! There's a painful little spot near my belly button and in the vicinity of where they were inserted and I'm darn nearly certain it's one of them migrated out of place.

Doesn't matter at my age if it's not "working" okay - as I'm now noticeably past menopause age and so quite safe in that respect.

Apparently they often "migrate" and people are told "Shouldnt be a problem" and obviously I'm quite safe all round from an unwanted pregnancy. But am concerned from the health point of view - and want that little area to stop having pain there.

Has anyone else had the same - and, if so, what did you do about it?

I'm contemplating swiping the area with castor oil for instance - as it's a naturecure, I gather, for various unwanted lumps and bumps. But I don't know if it would work for a hard "artificial" bump.

Thoughts?

I would suggest visiting a medical professional, yes they can migrate, ex Gynae Nurse,rather than asking advice on Grans net.

Allira - puzzled as to why anyone would think dissolvable stitches wouldnt dissolve. The name says they do dissolve - by definition. Otherwise = it's time they changed the name before they get in trouble for lying....

As others say, tell your GP about this asap.

I was told when I had my tubes clipped that the clips were gold.

As far as I can recollect - half of the length was gold colour and so they may well have been half gold. It would have been 1980 I think that I had this done.
