Sigmoidoscopy. Sedation and enema kit to use at home.

I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy a few years ago.

Never offered sedation.

Used the bowel prep kit in the morning, thought it hadn’t worked as I was expecting it to be like the enema I had in childbirth, but nothing like that. And they told me my bowel was lovely and clean.

As for the procedure, it was ok. I watched it on the screen, just a bit uncomfortable a time or two, but not a problem.

The results were nothing sinister, just piles, which I knew I had. It said I had good tolerance to the procedure.

Thank you Calendargirl that is helpful and a comfort. I will turn down the sedation as I am the carer for my husband so need to be on the ball....no one to care for me! Although my daughter will be at home with him while I am at the appt.

I had one a few years ago with no sedation, and I am not brave! It was performed by a nurse specialist who was excellent.

I had mine done a few years ago, no sedation, watched it on the screen. Bowel prep at home was fine, although I did have to be somewhat of a contortionist to administer the prep kit.

When I arrived at the hosp the staff were standing waiting for me, I wasn't late. They said the amount of people who didn't turn up was very high, the previous 3 appts before me that day were no shows apparently.

Should have mentioned, I was told straightaway the results, so I went home feeling very relieved, as of course it had been a worry.
