Am presently in bed with the flu. Started Saturday with temp of 39.5. Vomiting and chills. Family in Brighton have just come die with and we were their weds/Thurs.
I exactly same as last year when I succumbed to the flu at the same time of year. Both years have had the jab, doesn’t seem to work on me, though thankfully my OH is ok so far. I didn’t get the flu for donkeys years but now this is twice in as many years. I know I see the GCs a lot but other grandparents my age don’t seem so feeble when it comes to the flu.
Has anyone else experienced this and do you think I might need something to help fight it from the GP??
I know I am feeling sorry for myself when people suffer much worse things on here but it does feel awful.

Is it fku if you are vomiting?

Flu nit flu- which sounds vaguely rude.

My autocorrect appears to have lost the plot!

No was like this last time, the vomiting is caused by high temps. Could be wrong of course but the painfully aching limbs and crashing head/sore throat say otherwise and there were flu cases in the nursery my GC attends in Brighton. Also my daughter took a covid test and was kind of hoping it is covid, at least I could eat when I had that but the test was negative.
Just can’t get out of bed.

I sympathise. I don't recall ever having flu before but one night about a month ago I woke up around 3.00 a.m. and knew there was something horribly wrong. I felt dreadful. I toyed with the idea of calling for an ambulance, but told myself to just hang on till daybreak. I was then able to call my DD to come. She insisted I call the Dr.

I am reluctant to call the surgery and said oh you'll be number 30 in a queue! She got through right away and I had an appointment that afternoon. I was stunned! Long story short, you have to be careful that it doesn't worsen into pneumonia. It had settled on my chest and that's why they saw me so quickly, fortunately I'd had the pneumonia vaccine a few years ago. It took two rounds of antibiotics to clear up though. My advice is if you experience difficulty breathing and you're coughing up ghastly stuff, call the Dr. Perhaps you will need something to help you fight it.

Bed rest and nourishing soups when you feel you can take food. Sleep when you need to and no housework! That's the good bit! Hope you pick up soon.

I don’t think I ve ever had the flu not proper flu like you’re describing even Covid I had twice or was it three times I ve forgotten but they were nt bad just under par for a few days
Keep warm plenty of fluids and rest,
My kids were reminiscing one day and said their memories are bed, chicken noodle soup, and lucozade

Flu is horrible so you have my sympathy. I have had it a few times but thankfully not for years. It completely floors you and its a struggle even to get out of bed.

Plenty of clear fluids are very important, and paracetomol to control the aches and pains.

Just let your body do its job fighting the infection and you should feel better gradually. Don't rush into doing too much though- it can take ages to recover so take it steady. I hope you have someone to watch out for you.

Thanx, my OH is my Florence nightingale.
My heart goes out anyone facing this alone.

I have only had flu once years ago. Hope I never get it again vaccine seems to work for me. As far as I’m aware I’ve never had Covid either certainly never had a positive test when I was testing . How you soon feel better, plenty to drink and lots of sleep try not to do anything

Flu is awful but all you can do is ride it out. You're being cared for with lots of drinks and paracetamol and your temperature should come down in a day or so.
Hope you feel better soon Babs03.

Just got over a flu like illness and unfortunately DD1 has caught it (and DSiL). DD1 is rarely ill and nothing floors her but she had to phone in sick on Tuesday for first time in 8 years (teacher). Thought she should go back to work on Wed and now feels awful. I've never known her to go to bed with an illness before. She is taking fluids and paracetamol. She is a bad patient! Doesn't listen and then feels worse.
