Franski If you scroll down, you will find "Hips and Knees Part 5." It may look daunting, but do not be put off, we are all friendly and helpful. Ask a question, and we will answer to the best of our ability and say if we do not know the answer.

Franski that happens to me (I'm 75). I wear a knee support (pull on stretch bandage) for walking and dancing ?latter is an exercise class), and at every opportunity when sitting down I do leg raises because a fitness trainer told me strengthening the quad muscle in the thigh helps with knee problems.

Good luck!

I fractured my patella 13 years ago and I had to have two operations. I walk for at least 30 minutes a day usually more.
One of the reasons I would be reluctant to move into a bungalow is that using stairs is apparently very good exercise to maintain knee flexibility.

I’d been tripped up by a dog, tore something in my knee. The knee specialist did an mri scan and said he could operate, try and repair but feared ‘poking about in there could make it worse’
I said every step hurt, could I be damaging it - nope . Knee joints need to move or the seize up, keep walking he said
That knee is osteo arthritic but the fall was 8 years ago, the pain stopped. I walked 4 miles today (slowly)

Ok so thats helpful. Was thinking if wear and tear then should stress them less / get knee support

Strengthen your leg muscles. Walk, start Pilates/yoga/tai chi etc. but use the knees. The professor I saw after a knee injury stressed I must use my knees or they’d cease up

I am 62 and fit, fairly slim, healthy.....but over past few months i feel my right knee 'going' when walking upstairs. But its ok if i run upstairs quickly. Any ideas on how to strengthen weak knees? Or is there another forum/thread on this? Thanks!
