Bulging discs differ from compressed discs and appear different on an X-ray.

I don’t understand why sometimes my arthritic thumb joint or my knee hurts so much and yet eg today I’m fine. I still can’t walk properly outside but in the house it’s as if I don’t have arthritis at all.

MayBee70 yess..that’s me on a good day in the house..
I slept 5 hrs straight and do feel so much better ..well, at the moment 🤞🏻and it’s much cooler…

cornergran extrusions? So that’s not compressed discs? Another new word for me ..hope you’re having a better day - yes I have widespread OA .. it seeps in everywhere doesn’t it?

cornergran Tue 24-Jun-25 04:20:39

Just caught up again bea. I thunk I’ve confused the issue here. I have extrusions, bulging in essence which MRI’s show do re-absorb. However, they also cause nerve damage and pain which remain after re-absorption. Apologies if I misunderstood your issues which now sound quite different.

Understand what you’re saying maybee. I’m the same with pain from osteoarthritis which seems to have made itself at home everywhere in my body. I’ve got to think of it in the same way I think of fibro flares, there’s an ebb an flow often without any discernible reason. Hope you feel stronger very soon.

Is everyone asleep early with the heat?

silverlining48 Thu 19-Jun-25 15:43:04

We are coming on the 28 th Grammargran so hope good weather extends at least until after the first week in July.
It would be great to have a sunny uk holiday for a change.
I was in the sea a few days ago in the south east and hope to have the chance again when we get to Dorset.
Here’s to sunny 😎 holidays

Bea65 Thu 19-Jun-25 14:24:50

Heatwave here and joints stinging everywhere
It’s the groin pain now which is with me 24/7 why?
Would love to mow my small back garden as it gave me such satisfaction but know am not fit enough with the clearing up and can’t use the local tip- my neighbour who usually mows and I pay him, says it’s too hot..
am not going back to physio until my pelvic pain/lumbar pain has decreased..sleep longer than 4/5 hrs has turned me into a bad tempered banshee😡

grammargran Thu 19-Jun-25 09:58:10

Morning silverlining. Yes, Redcar did post, but didn’t mention her hip. Down here in the west, it should be pretty warm until the end of the month, fingers crossed for you!

silverlining48 Thu 19-Jun-25 08:43:11

Think Redcar posted yesterday 3 up from here. Hello to all
Keep safe in this heat, drink plenty of 💦 . It won’t last because we are off to the West Country soon, and our friends know to avoid our holiday dates because when we are on our hols the sun is usually elsewhere.

grammargran Thu 19-Jun-25 08:29:49

Hi everyone, good to hear from you. It’s quite reassuring to hear of other’s aches and pains and I really empathise. I think I’ve hit another plateau - that makes about the third or fourth in the seven months since THR. Everything seems to be going according to plan, then progress grinds to a halt. At the moment, my operated leg seems very stiff again & as for my back ……. I can’t stand for any length of time at all. How’s the hip going for you Redcar? You’re my measuring stick in that department!

silverlining48 Thu 19-Jun-25 08:29:28

You can let off steam here teabagwomam. Hope the corn is dealt with soon and suggest you pull the curtains to keep the heat out and just rest.

teabagwoman Thu 19-Jun-25 07:00:24

This heat seems to be making my joint pain worse and just to top it off I’ve developed a very nasty corn and can’t do anything about it as my knee won’t bend sufficiently. Thank heaven the chiropodist is coming soon. I’ve also developed quite bad gastric reflux and have been told not to bend over but bend at the knees. My knees don’t agree! I’m getting quite handy with a litter picker but there’s only so much it will do. Sorry if this sounds moaney but I need to let off steam.

MayBee70 Wed 18-Jun-25 20:31:32

I’m awaiting the result of my knee x ray. I do feel better, arthritis wise, when it’s hot but feel drained physically. I’ve had a blocked sewage drain to deal with this week and now have a furniture beetles everywhere problem so it’s a good job my joints aren’t too bad. I’ve got to deep clean my whole house! I don’t understand why my arthritic thumb joint hurts terribly sometimes and then I forget I’ve even got a problem. It does worry me that, ever since I saw my osteopath my hip has been hurting; one part of my body that I’ve never had a problem with before!

Redcar Wed 18-Jun-25 20:06:41

My back and arthritic feet seem to be more painful in this hot weather. I always thought they’d be worse in the cold and damp but trust me to be different!
charleygirl we’re supposed to be open plan in this village, but as houses have been sold and new people have moved in, fences and hedges are appearing all over the place!

Charleygirl5 Wed 18-Jun-25 18:59:34

Living in London, I could rent out my car park space, but I don't want to go down the self-assessment route again, so I'm happy to look at an empty space. I will get a bollard fitted because people from other roads have taken over four private car park spaces, using my side garden as a rubbish tip.

It is open plan. Fencing is not allowed, or mine would be high and electrified.

grammargran Wed 18-Jun-25 16:26:06

Wow, we need a bump, we’re way down the list at the moment. Anyone got anything to report? Or is everyone having a siesta in this beautiful weather?

cornergran Fri 13-Jun-25 23:04:39

Good for you Charley. Keeping control is so important and no, of course there’s no need to allow a vulture to use your car space. Unless of course they will pay you an extortionate amount in rent grin. I hope we’re brave enough to make the same decision when we should no longer be in the driving seat.

Thinking leg lengths one of mine is shorter than the other, I’ve been told a twisted pelvis is the culprit. Bulging discs can and do re-absorb bea. I’ve a history of them coming and going along with the refereed pain. Nuisance for sure. Hope the heel lift helps.

MayBee70 Fri 13-Jun-25 22:30:57

I had some inserts made a few years ago when I was having problems with m feet. But they don’t fit in any of my shoes and, even if they did my mutant feet are only comfortable in trainers.

Charleygirl5 Fri 13-Jun-25 21:23:14

I can just make it to my local bus stop- there is a fabulous service. All shops are about 2 miles away except my GP, and when I get my act together, I will change the surgery to one closer.

Being Scottish, I will not be spending much money on minicabs, I hope!

I hope to be the proud owner of a mobility scooter in a couple of weeks. I will not be travelling far, but with luck it will cut out the walk to the bus stop.

I wanted to be the person making the decision re my driving licence- I did not want it made for me.

I am cross the vultures are eyeing my allocated car park space. I intend to keep it free for friends and tradespeople.
