It’s 3 years since I began this thread prior to my new hip hop op and it’s still a surprise that we are going strong.
There are many of us on here who can answer most questions and give support and encouragement to anyone setting out on this adventure.
No no need to read all the way through, there are 5000 posts, just ask your question and it will get a friendly and helpful response. Welcome to all.
Good luck tomorrow bea.
Hope you can get some answers tomorrow Bea.
Bea I am sorry I do not have an answer. It does not sound as though the pain is referred from your hip. At least you will be seeing somebody tomorrow who I hope will be able to answer your question. I suppose the referred pain is coming from the operated hip, but it is odd only having the pain in bed, unless I am wrong? If you have the pain during the day also I would think it is referred pain from your hip.
Write down your questions, it will be easier and good luck.
Glad everyone coping with recovery..
Tomorrow I see consultant post op ..I shall thank him for fixing my new hip which I can’t complain about re pain or lack of mobility as am getting out and about and driving short distances and the scar is healing well - moisturising few times a day 😀
But, will also ask why this stinging knee pain on op leg persists and disruption of sleep nearly 8 weeks now..cannot get past the 4hr sleep because am woken up with bees in my knee and taking more pain meds and using the voltarol ..has anyone had this post op knee issue when the hip replacement was good🙃
That’s good to hear Susytish.
This thread is invaluable! I’ve been using a double layer of tubigrip on my affected ankle which has made it feel more stable and brought the pain down to manageable levels. Thank you ladies.
Susytish my swollen foot and ankle kept me awake for at least three to four weeks after my THR. It felt so hot under the bedclothes I wrapped a damp flannel round it for relief. During the day I resorted to bags of frozen veg!
Yes swelling is normal, I know my foot was swollen. Keep it raised preferably above your heart, easier said than done, but you are a professional at this, you probably know more than I do, having only had one hip hop.
silverlining48 yes it feels better without the stitches although they didn't really bother me too much.
Now I am hoping to have a proper shower tomorrow, of sorts.
I have been using the hair shampoo caps which I used before when I had right knee and right hip done, so hoping for a proper wash tomorrow!
As always all the suggestions you all gave me before have been helpful again this time
The only problem is my ankle and foot swelling up but apparently that is normal?!
teabagwoman I have had both hips replaced, the most recent was six months ago. Since I started to get around more, I have developed arthritis in both ankles and feet. The right ankle is worse than the left. Since my doctor’s advice is always painkillers and physiotherapy, I went straight to the physio at the surgery. She diagnosed arthritis, possibly exacerbated by ligament problems due to walking differently (more normally) since the operation. She gave me some exercises to do, and they are helping, although they’re not easy to do and are also fairly painful. The ankle isn’t too bad walking indoors, but coming down stairs is sometimes excruciating!
I don’t fancy surgery of any kind, so will soldier on. I’ve bought an ankle support but it’s so thick I can’t get it on!
If it helps teabagwoman, my friend uses strapping if she is going to walk more than usual and she says it makes a huge difference pain wise. Definitely worth a try.
I had the option of a big toe fusion but read up about it and as it seemed to ease left it as it was.
Two weeks plus Susytish, does it feel easier without stitches. ?
I was told I had stitches and had to travel some distance to the hospital, the nurse dig around a little, found no stitches and told me I had been glued. An unnecessary journey!
sealover I had my TLH done on 1st May, and am doing OK. Had stitches out yesterday. Was prescribed Codeine they help but make me feel dozy(more than usual!), so might gradually phase them out. Best wishes for your recovery.
That is a good idea, but I do not think you should buy it from Amazon or whoever. It would be best if a physiotherapist had some input, but that may not be easy when she does not agree with you. teabadwoman.
For starters, why not wrap it in a 4" crepe bandage and apply it from toes to around the ankle? Have you got any Tubigrip? Again, fit from toes to below the knee.
I agree Charleygirl, I don’t see surgery to my ankle as a solution . I am wondering whether it’s worth looking at an ankle support of some type for when the pain is particularly bad or I have to be on my feet a lot.
I agree with you yeabagwoman. Not everything is referred from spine or hip.Surgery is limited, either a fusion or a new ankle. I am not familiar with the latter as they were being trialled when I was around.
I personally would think three times about a fusion but that is my personal view. I have one ankle pinned and plated and there are many positions impossible for me and mine has not been fused.
I know this is a hipster and knees thread but does anyone have experience of osteoarthritis in the ankle as well? I have been complaining of pain in my left ankle all the way through but keep being told it’s referred pain from my back/hip. I’m not convinced as I can reduce the pain by keeping my ankle rigid when I walk. Any thoughts?
How are you today sea lover?
Hey, we are currently no. 1
Even if we are at the bottom of the list .
One at a time on the hope that we get back on track
I am going to post three messages
Morning all, looks like we habe another lovely day to look forward to .
We Havnt been on the Active jage fir a few days so
It’s 65 for the exercise sliding your foot towards your bottom while lying on your back. The exercise sitting in a chair such as a dining chair allows you to slide your foot back under the chair, getting beyond 90 degrees as the swelling goes down.
Silverlining Knee bending is crucial, or one may end up with a MUAm, a manipulation under GA. That is why I am nagging her to see a physio now. If I had a better idea of the amount of swelling and how much the knee can bend, I would have a better idea.
90 degrees is the magic figure, not 65.
