I should have said when I had my hip replaced I was discharged ….. etc etc
Making so many mistakes this morning. Is it too early for
G and T ?

I was discharged on Good Friday morning and was feeling a bit unwell over the weekend. I rang and was told they were sending out ‘‘the team’. Certainly wasn’t expecting that response.
Shortly after a young man on a motorbike turned up (without the rest of the team). It coukd have been Easter Monday but not sure now.

When my first knee was operated on, the male physio also worked on a Sunday. I have no idea if it was his choice.

Surprised you had a Sunday visit from a physio. He may have been a bit feel up too, its not usual for them to work weekends.

No one has to accept carers Bea and four times a day is quite a lot. When I managed care for people over 20 years ago, it was very unusual for anyone to get 4 calls a day. They would have to be very sick. It was usually two or occasionally 3 calls.
Phone your gp today, or as I said earlier, the consultants secretary to explain your concerns.
I am sure when your special bed etc is delivered they will give a hand in moving anything in the way.
Unless something has gone horribly wrong you will feel better sooner than you think. Cheer up

What a palaver Bea. It's a good job your daughter is there to help, as you are in no state to move anything. Where are you expected to put furniture? In the unused part of your mansion. This is very unrealistic.

As grammargran said, shout and rant at us. We understand, and although we cannot help you physically, we know what you and your daughter are going through.

Bea I feel so helpless here just reading your posts and being able to to nothing but just that. I feel for your DD, too, as she must be just as unhappy. All this stress when you are only a week from undergoing a major operation. You have been so unlucky in your after op dealings when all you should be doing is concentrating on your recovery. You are also very tired as well as in pain. Just feel free to vent and rant on here, at least it gets it out of your system. As usual, big hugs.

{Redcar}had my worst night - don’t think I’m taking the correct dosage of pain relief .. will try and phone GP later and still need to get up too loo 3times -

I didn’t want carers in so this is something else to deal with
… my mom had several in the past when she was in her 80s and I had to deal with ‘missing items’ it was a nightmare and always said I would take care of self- please no offence meant to carers on here- have prepared kitchen so everything is on 1level no bending down ..

bea good that you are getting some sort of help now, but a shame you weren’t forewarned about the physiotherapist visit. I hope your DD manages to get the tv unit moved to a suitable location.

So a physio called yesterday..unannounced but wearing a lanyard and said he’d been trying to call ..DD Checked phone and yes I ONE missed call which said reported scam no’ …she only just had a shower and I needed the bathroom so asked her to tell him to wait in car - was so flipping mad and in pain - was rude when he came back in he didn’t want to remove his trainers and asked if I had covers…. He did remove but my mood was low
he assessed my gait and said I needed an osteo bed and commode.
I did apologise before he left said he understands…then told DD TO ring council for safe key and how many carers do I want a day? He decided on 4 visits and what they are to do..
Couple of hrs later, DD received call saying bed being delivered today and was room prepared… I’ve only a 2 bed small townhouse so am unsure where this bed is meant to go ..had I known I’d be offered a downstairs bed, could have rearranged pieces of furniture to be moved in kitchen..now DD is stressed that the bed will come and as it has to be plugged in somewhere and the physio suggested that TV unit should be moved…now I’m very attached to my Tv as have it n most of day for company…
Sound like a bitter old lady ATM and really should be grateful of this unexpected visit with deliveries to come ..hope this isn’t too tedious for anyone reading ..

silverlining from any professional point of view it was very confusing because some of the views were so different with no scientific reasoning for backup.

Redcar think the physio has to go with what the particular surgeon deems. After my surgery I asked the physio a question about something, maybe the 90 degree rule, I forget now but she asked who my surgeon was, looked in a book and told me how he worked.
Another surgeon , another view. It’s all very elastic really. Must be confusing for the physios too.

So finally got an extra hour of sleep..makes such a difference..
I’ve seemed to develop a whistling in my nose …is this a side effect of the GA.? Or, am I just weird?

Have taken off the nurse ratchet stockings and left lower leg feels much better ..baby steps…
Am wide awake but don’t want to disturb DD who needs her sleep too .a few frosty words muttered yesterday so hopefully she’ll not take them too seriously as I’m not a very patient patient…

Bea I hope you have a better night's sleep. Things can only get better.

Why oh why do some hospitals still insist on the dreaded stockings while others tossed them aside a while ago? It quite obviously makes no difference one way or another unless for some reason you are at risk of DVTs (and you should’ve been told this at your pre-op assessment). An absolute mystery and a very unkind one at that!

Bea I am so very sorry you are going through all this stress. I was incredibly lucky as I had a DH to come home to plus local DDs so I can’t help you with your referral problem. What is making me cross in all this is the different approaches taken in different hospitals - in this case compression stockings. My hospital didn’t use them at all, deeming the electrically operated compression boots for the first 24 hours, followed by four weeks of anti-coagulant injections sufficient. Plus, of course, getting you out of bed at the first opportunity and doing your exercises. The stairs probably seem like Mount Everest at the moment but you will conquer them. Big hugs, my lovely, this won’t last for ever, every day is a tiny, tiny step forward.

I had my THR four years ago. To those worrying I remember how scary it was but it’s been the best thing ever.

I opted for local anaesthetic, injections (self administered) rather than stockings. Also do the post op exercises. They might feel impossible at first but persevere.

My consultant insisted on the injections for four weeks and stockings for six weeks and so did the hospital physiotherapist. I was in such discomfort from the stockings that I actually cut them off my legs one night. (Couldn’t bend enough to pull them down, but nail scissors did th trick). It took about a week for the skin on my legs to recover from them. You should be ok if you exercise your feet as much as possible.

If you do decide to abandon the stockings, I know you are injecting yourself, and it is a belt-and-braces approach. When sitting down, even in bed, exercise both legs, bending and stretching and exercising both ankles, up and down and round about. Monday is not far away, and you are not on your own.

My consultant was ok with me not wearing the dreadful stockings so I didn’t. I was injecting myself every day so thought it would be ok and it was.
Why not ring the consultants secretary on Monday morning to discuss this and any other questions you have. It should put your mind at rest.

Is your daughter still with you Bea? Are you sleeping ok as I notice you are posting in the middle of what I presume was a long night?
Stay upstairs if you want but you should be able to manage the stairs just be careful. The first thing I did when I got home was to go upstairs to the toilet. Have you tried going down on your bottom. Do you have sticks or crutches? I found sticks easier but only use one on stairs.
It’s just a few days and you are recovering from major surgery. O hope your daughter is being patient and hope you get done help next week
Have you any other family or friends or even friendly neighbours that might help? This time next week you will feel a lot better.

Those bloody stockings…pulled one off surely they shouldn’t be digging in so much that they R CUTTING OFF CIRCULATION
