Thank you GNs especially page 40 of part 5 and reading your personal experiences has calmed me a bit …
I was given 2new crutches at pre-op to train my brain how to use them ..I’ve previously used the taller crutches and wondered why I’ve now got the smaller elbow ones…I feel I’m tipping forward a lot and have attempted a short walk today and my lower back is now feeling sore - is this normal? I know I can wait till TUESDAY to ask @hospital but anyone on here?🙏

Hello Bea, think you have put your post on a different thread, look out for the dancing girls 👯‍♀️ I think Charleygirl replied to your crutches question.

Thank you silverlining48..I didn't know how to type the dancing girls... appreciate you!

silverlining48 Mon 24-Mar-25 14:44:15

You don’t need to type the dancing girls as I already did it to start the 6 th thread.
However it took me ages to remember how to do it, so if you are interested you just type dancing girls 👯‍♀️ and up they pop! It’s a miracle.
Back now to the official thread… 🧵

Am I on the right page? You are all amazing, getting to part 6!
I am due to have my left THR on Thursday, having had the right THR and TKR in 2023.
I had a lung problem last year and was given steroids which finished in March. They wouldn’t operate until steroids finished. My oxygen level is ok but heart rate is up. The GP told me it could be result of steroids?
Nice to see familiar names on here, eg silverling!

susytish Good luck on Thursday, hope all goes well. To get to the right hips and knees thread, you need to look for the dancing girls by the thread name, but it’s not always on the active list. To find it, go to health at the top of the page and search for hips and knees part 6. See you there!

I’ve arranged to see an osteopath in a weeks time. He’s the one that got me walking again when I first had a problem with my knee. However tonight I tried standing on one leg at a time and realised that I couldn’t stand on the arthritic knee. Which made me think, if that’s the case there surely can’t be an alternative to having a knee replacement. And that the pain in my back and neck is down to the change in posture. Don’t want to mess him about by cancelling and I would like his opinion because I do trust him but it’s going to cost quite a lot I would imagine.

MayBee70 go on to the thread for hips and knees with the dancing girls. That’s where all the experience is!

I’ve hit another problem. A few years ago I had my toilet replaced but the company fitted one with a seat that is not a normal size and can no longer be bought ( I think they had a job lot of them). When the seat broke they sold me a replacement seat that was chipped but charged me full price for it so I’m certainly not using them again. I’m not sure that a raised seat will fit on the toilet and, of course I will need one for a while. Do the hospital supply them? Also how long do people usually spend in hospital and how often do you go for physio afterwards?

Redcar Tue 13-May-25 20:27:29

maybee the hospital do generally provide a raised toilet seat. Most people stay in hospital for between one and three nights, depending on the hospital and how well you can get around. I used the raised toilet seat for about three months after the operation,
The other hips and knees thread has lots of advice. Go to the section marked health at the top of the page, type in hips and knees 6 and it will take you there. We’re not often on the active page. Look for the dancing ladies!

Just spent the day in bed as I wasn’t feeling very good. The trouble with arthritis is that you hope that resting will make you feel better but, in fact, you just seize up and feel worse.

Just been to see my osteopath. He seems to think that I will need a new knee but, oh my life, if I could afford to see him all the time I’d be a new woman. He’s removed so much tension in my body. I still couldn’t explain to him why I struggle so much when I try to walk outside; I’m sure a lot of it is psychological.

MayBee70 that’s good to hear. Has he suggested any exercises for you to do to continue the good work? As I suggested earlier, and so has Redcar , under the Health heading in the Forums, look for 👯 👯‍♂️ 👯‍♂️ 👯‍♂️ Hips and Knees 6 👯‍♂️ 👯‍♂️. You can’t miss it with all the dancing girls. It’s got over 20 pages of helpful advice there but all you need do is ask a question & you’ll get an answer.

Didn’t mention exercises other than getting an exercise bikes. He was surprised at how limited the movement was in my bad knee. He also said to use arnica which I only thought of as something to reduce bruising so I’m going to get some.
