I have taken cod liver oil supplement every day of my life, along with vitamin c and vitamin d. The price has risen considerably and reluctant to stop now. Does anyone order by post products which are cheaper as I use Boots.

The only one I take is vitamin D3, on doctor’s advice. I’m on quite a lot of prescription meds so don’t like to add more pills. I get capsules from Amazon, bottle contains a year’s supply. At the moment it’s still the same price as it was in 2023, under £10 but don’t know if it still will be next time I need to order it.

Isn't vitamin D one of the reasons for taking cod liver oil?
I thought so anyway. Presumably someone will pop along soon who knows.

You may not need to take vitamin D as well.

I buy vitamins from Holland and Barrett, I'm on their mailing list now so only buy when they have special offers eg bogof or 3 for price of 2.

I buy mine from Healthspan, much cheaper than H&B and I find them excellent.

If you want supplements that actually work, I recommend British Supplements. Check out their customer reviews, which really are genuine.

You don't need vit D top of cod liver oil, it's very rich in vit D.

I buy them from Boots too, there are various versions with different amounts of the active ingredient - I buy the "Max Strength". Apparently Cod Liver Oil is a good source of Vitamin D, but less so Fish oil, I take a multivitamin anyway.
Boots always seem to have some offer on, 2 for 3, 25% off (at the moment) or whatever.
Last time I bought them I checked all the nutritional information and Boots didn't seem particularly expensive in comparison.

Me too. Pricier than most places, but you're actually buying what you expect without all the fillers included. Usually fast delivery too and very helpful.

Have a look at Nature's Best. www.naturesbest.co.uk/multivitamins/?src=GOMULTNAT&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20513748385&gbraid=0AAAAA_X3-oVfx6CxQVHXhmCsP1UvJwkhF&gclid=Cj0KCQjwndHEBhDVARIsAGh0g3DkIatqo9Ll7VLqaEYuhan3BF3-Ejzg9haCruf47m5DMWdguR1Q8okaAk2sEALw_wcB

Cod liver oil has a blood thinning effect and so may cause bruising. If you're only taking it for the Vit. D you may as well take it in tablet form.

Of course, if it hasn't caused bruising problems with your long term usage you could equally well cut out the Vit D to save a bit of money.

DH and I have taken cod liver oil in liquid form for many years.

Finding it quite difficult to get now. I prefer the liquid to capsules.

Using Superdrug’s at the moment, but it feels ‘weak’ compared to some others.

I try and support our local health food shop, maybe more expensive than online, but he tries and gets stuff when hard to source, and is very knowledgeable about his products.

‘Use them or lose them’ (local shops).

I, too, only take vitamin D at the moment. However, I am considering taking collagen. It’s supposed to be good for skin and joints. Do any of you take it and do you have any tips/ caveats/ advice? Can’t help wondering if it’s just a gimmick ( it seems to be advertised everywhere online) and if I’d just be wasting my money.

We take collagen every day as DH has thin skin (he says). It seems to work as his skin is looking better.
We buy fish collagen capsules. My son and wife have bovine powdered collagen. They say capsules are not strong enough. Who knows.

I’ve only ever taken Vitamin D, as we’re all advised to, but I have bad dry eyes and the optician told me to take omega 3 (vegan as I wouldn’t consume fish). She also advised me to eat lots of walnuts.
Does anyone know what else might help dry eyes?

Supplements from Natures Best are reasonably priced and arrive quickly. The company was recommended to me by a nutritionist.

Interesting, Liaise, I might order some fish collagen capsules for DH, as his skin seems to be becoming more fragile.

It is important to take vitamin K along with vitamin D3 so that calcium gets into your bones and not your arteries.

Consultant at local hospital told me omega 3 is ok but flaxseed is better. I still have dry eyes but don't seem to need eye drops as much.

Optician told me to take flaxseed oil but it was expensive so I bought Evening Primrose oil instead. Discovered it’s for menopausal women and I’m 80!
