Any experience as a supplement for high blood pressure?

Sallywally1 Thu 28-Aug-25 18:58:37

Thanks. I actually loathe beetroot itself so a supplement might be better for me

That's what I use them for Elegran. I can get low fodmap certified onion infused oil too but it's very expensive. This was me just looking for something to have on standby.

Here's a pic of the back of the packet. Nutritional info etc on there.

Many thanks

You could replace the onion with the green bits of spring onions or leeks.

Soupmaker (Morphy Richards) -

Tomato and beetroot soup ready in 21 minutes

1 packet shrink-wrapped cooked beetroot, roughly chopped (include the juice)
A mug or two of passata (or a chopped onion, a couple of tomatoes and a squeeze of tomato puree)
Water to max level

Stir

Soupmaker on smooth option.

Serve with cubes of feta

Already there Aveline, but I'm cooking less these days so am aware that planning ahead will be useful as would having some items I, or a carer, could take out a use if the need came. And sometimes I just like an easy but tasty meal that requires no thought!

My biggest problem is that I can't use onions. I can use the green part of leeks or spring onions - I freeze them and pass the white parts on to friends. Having something that is certified means it's very easy for someone else if needed.

I just hoped someone had come across the brand.

Get yourself a soup maker Politics nerd? They're great for using up odds and ends of veg and with only the additives you choose.

This is the joy of GN. Because this thread looked interesting, and because someone mentioned a soup, I went off to Google "low fodmap beetroot soup". Recipes appeared but so did a readymade Carrot, Cumin and Beetroot Soup that has just been certified "low fodmap". They already make two other soups - Comforting Carrot and Ginger Soup & Soothing Tomato and Red Pepper Soup.

But I've never heard of the company! So back to the power of GN. Has anyone come across Tideford Organics? I will keep trying to track them down but all help is very welcome. It would be lovely to have some soup in the cupboard ready for those lovely autumn days!

I asked in H&B about health supplements. Their advisors always ask about prescribed medications, and quite rightly so. When I told them that I take certain medications they advised against supplements and told me to speak to my GP or prescribing nurse. What I’m trying to say is be careful what you take.

Amlodipine? 5mg. The 10mg one really caused problems so I went back to the 5mg.

Ah no sorry, my fault I wasn't clear...
I had been looking at the beetroot supplements and just wondered what mg you are taking

I take the beetroot capsule as well as Amlodipine. I wouldn't want to take it instead of that.

May I ask which mg?

I love to try natural supplements if I can but if I took everything people recommended it would be costing me a fortune. I take Plant Sterols instead of Statins and I've been on a multivitamin for about four years (started taking it during the dreaded Covid) I also take two turmeric tablets since I pulled a ligament in my knee two years ago. I have also tried everything going to aid my sleep and if Beetroot could help with my sleep I'd buy fresh and eat loads.

I love beetroot but wouldn’t imagine it would control blood pressure. My blood pressure is well controlled so not a particular concern. I have noticed the scary red poo next day.

I'm on bp meds Ramipril and Amlodipine and have been for the last 13 years. I'm a bit nervous of taking the beetroot supplements in case it affects my blood pressure too much and it is so hard where I live to get an appointment to discuss with the GP. Having said that, it would be wonderful to find an alternative to prescription meds that works.

I used to make beetroot cake with what was left after I'd made beetroot juice, I no longer haave the juicer so I no longer make the cake, it was pleasant enough, but I would make the icing flavoured with lemon juice to counteract the sweetness of the cake

Like you love beetroot and would rather eat it than take a supplement

Nightsky2

I read somewhere about the health benefits of beetroot juice so I bought 6 bottles of the stuff only to find that it taste so awful I can’t drink it.

I think I might just force myself to drink small amounts of it rather than chucking it down the sink.

Whizzing it up with an apple may improve it, Nightsky2 , though if it still tastes horrible it will be a waste of the apple.

I absolutely cannot stand beetroot!! I hat the flavour and texture of it. It's the only vegetable I don't like.

Lovely if baked in a cake. The original red velvet

Homemade beetroot soup in the winter is lovely. Ginger and onion added and the whole thing blitzed. Dollop of cream / yoghurt and a piece of goat cheese on top is delicious. Freezes well.
