Annoying Doctors

I was put on a diuretic and told to have blood taken in a two weeks to see if my electrolytes were ok. The drug made me feel really poorly so after a bit I stopped taking it.

I’d just started to feel a bit better when I had the blood taken. Anyway, the results came back abnormal. The GP who reviewed the result sent me a text saying abnormal results, repeat in two weeks. The GP didn’t look to see why I was having a blood test and there was no instructions about stopping the medication, which was obviously affecting my electrolytes.

When we make an appointment we are always asked what we want to see the doctor about, or in my case, it’s written on the e-consult. Surely the doctor should read that before calling you in,

It's the IT systems that do these crazy things. The GPs have no control over them. It's annoying but sometimes you just have to suck it up.

If you have a good pharmacist, I think it's often better to ask them about medications. The properties and uses of medicines is their forte, after all.

Still, the suggestion of a slow-release version of what you were taking sounds like a good idea but it's a shame you felt you hadn't really been 'listened to' by the GP surgery.

Yes but she just shrugged it off. I assume it was probably another doctor in the practice who made that decision and she was just the duty doctor. Communication is not their strong point!

Did you ask her why you’d been told you had to have a face to face appointment and your query couldn’t be answered by text?

Just needed a rant, sorry.! Early this morning I sent an e-consult to my GP surgery to ask a question about one of my medications. There was an option for a reply by telephone or text, I ticked text,
An hour or so later I received a phone call from the surgery to make an appointment for a face to face appointment today. I queried that I didn’t really need an appointment and that I was expecting a text but a telephone call would be OK. I was told no, the doctor had insisted on a face to face. I reluctantly accepted the appointment and DH had to stop what he was doing to take me as we live about 6 miles from the surgery. The stupid thing is that, if you really need a face to face they will insist on a phone call first and you have to join a queue at 8AM to get an appointment!
Ten minutes past my appointment time the last patient came out so I assumed that I would soon be seen. However another ten minutes went by and the doctor came out, ignored me and wandered off somewhere. She eventually came back after another five minutes or so and finally called me in. ‘Good morning’, she said ‘what can I do for you’? She has not read my e-consult or looked at my record. I’m afraid I was a bit short with her. She really didn’t ask me any in depth questions about the side effects I was getting but went on to prescribe me the same medication but slow release tablets. I now have four unopened packets of the originals that will go back and be destroyed!
Rant over but I’d already blown poor DH’s ear off!
