There will be an emergency alert sounded and vibrate on your phone at 3pm. If you or loved one effected by sound make sure you are safe ..

Missed it - away with no signal .

AGAA4 Tue 09-Sept-25 11:45:03

It's not much use if not everyone gets the alert. Hopefully we may notice all our neighbours rushing to their cars shouting "Fire" or "Tsunami".

Lona Tue 09-Sept-25 11:43:51

I think it only sounds if your phone has 4G or 5G internet.

I waited patiently for my 3 pm alert, and it never came!

Do you think we've been targeted?
Or untargeted, for whatever reason? 😲

I got the warning text, and saw this on the news, but DH got it and I did not

GrammarGrandma Mon 08-Sept-25 17:28:16

We were flying back from Germany and did not get the alert. Imagine if everyone on the plane had received the loud siren mid-air!

NanaCorinne Mon 08-Sept-25 17:19:32

I was nearly deafened by the alert as I had forgotten that my hearing aids are linked by Bluetooth to my phone. It went off in my ears! Next time I must remember to take my aids out before it happens.

I knew about the expected alarm so was on the alert for it. I was just surprised how quiet it actually was, If the phone was in the next room I would not have heard it.

Alie2Oxon Mon 08-Sept-25 15:18:07

I didn't get the alarm at all. That's because my phone is not a smartphone... it's not online. I use computers fine - but I refuse to be available 24/7, turn it off at night.

But how many older people like me just don't have a smartphone?

jocork Mon 08-Sept-25 14:48:42

I read about the alert and immediately realised I'd be abroad, probably at the airport waiting for my flight home. Thankfully it didn't go off for me. Presumably you had to be in the UK at the time, not just have a UK number!

Out of interest why do people want it switched off?

My thoughts exactly JJ! Unless it would disturb someone’s sleep

I don’t think it was loud enough plus it’s high pitched and there’s an awful lot of folk including my OH who cannot hear high pitched sounds.

Retired65 Mon 08-Sept-25 14:19:20

I don't know what happened but neither me or my husband received any alterts on our phones yesterday.

Kamj Mon 08-Sept-25 14:03:13

I turned all alerts off years ago

Sheila11 Mon 08-Sept-25 13:42:08

My daughter is in a West End show - they were all told to make sure their phones switched off and not just on silent!

grandMattie Mon 08-Sept-25 05:25:40

I had forgotten and it startled me. I got it at 1502, and wasn’t as loud as the one we got in December regarding the storm.

Lovetopaint037 Mon 08-Sept-25 04:41:46

Apparently a lot of people didn’t get it. I thought it would be louder or like a wartime siren.

25Avalon Sun 07-Sept-25 21:20:18

Didn’t sound as loud as last time and when you clicked ok it went straight off. Definitely not as scary.

fancythat Sun 07-Sept-25 19:17:43

Almost sounded like a regular call.

aggie Sun 07-Sept-25 19:11:01

Yes it sounded not too loud though, if it was real we would need to hear it

Crossstitchfan Sun 07-Sept-25 18:45:17

I got the alarm as promised. I don’t know how long for as I switched it off as soon as I knew the alert was working, but I was told it would be ten seconds. It wasn’t very loud though. I don’t know whether the alert volume is affected by whether the mobile’s volume is high or low.
I wonder if it should be longer? If you are in another room, you might not hear such a short warning.

fancythat Sun 07-Sept-25 18:41:38

fancythat

Hope it doesnt!
Was considering putting it out in the garage. Think I will now.

My DH has fallen asleep. I have swiped his as well!

I retrieved phones at 3.03pm.
Assumed it had all happened.
Was walking back in with DH phone in my hand and still on, and the government alarm went off!

Whiff Sun 07-Sept-25 17:08:26

I was expecting it but it still startled me and my phone vibrated and a talking message . My daughter told me about weeks ago . So made note. Because of my HPX my startle reflex kicked in so I was stiff once my limbs loosen I was shaking for a while . So much for expecting it . 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I always keep mine switched off. At home I use the Internet landlines. I only use the mobile when essential - it saves having to keep recharging the battery. Switching it on to receive security codes from the bank, etc., takes but a few seconds.

FindingNemo15 Sun 07-Sept-25 16:46:11

My friend and I both got the three warning noises on our phones.

Also got the same three noises on mine last Monday which made me jump. Went into EE shop to see why and they were not interested.
