Have your home well organised in advance. Fill your freezer with easy to reheat meals. Accept offers of practical help.
More GNs will come on with good advice.
France has a good reputation for medical care.
Best of luck.

I can’t speak from personal experience but my daughter had a hysterectomy a few years ago in her early 40’s due to very large painful fibroids. She recovered remarkably quickly and said she felt instantly better from day 1 as the fibroids pain was gone. She seemed to have minimal post op pain despite a large abdominal wound.

But of course we are all different so don’t spare the prescribed medication if you need it. My daughter quickly learned, when she returned from hospital, that it was safer to have a cushion on her lap protecting her wound area from her dog. He was so pleased to see her home after 48 hr absence he would suddenly leap up on her lap without warning and she didn’t always see him till he landed on her!

Drink well and eat plenty of fibre to avoid uncomfortable constipation problems and try to gently mobilise every couple of hours and build on it.

Easier said than done but try not to worry. I’m sure it won’t be as bad as you’re anticipating. Wishing you a speedy recovery . Come back and tell us how it went 💐

Hi Gransneters

I'm due to have an abdominal partial hysterectomy - conservation of one ovary and the cervix - next Friday. I'm having this done in France. The language barrier is an issue as my French is very limited.

I suppose I'm seeking reassurance as my nerves are in shreds.

Do.you have any hints and tips for a smooth recovery/things that helped you?

Any positive stories will also help too.

Pleased be kind, no nastiness.
