Travel insurance problems

So…. Hubby has been referred to the hospital for a routine appointment, which could be some weeks away.
This is a new condition, but other than a Doppler scan at the gp, we don’t have a diagnosis as yet.
Obviously I will need to update with the insurers but how does this affect things? Are we still able to travel?

Tricky one. How do insurers assess the risk if you don't already have a diagnosis? It could be any thing, or nothing. I'd just explain what's happening but see no reason why you can't still travel.

Just tell them the situation- they will adjust the premium accordingly according to the risk.

You might be surprised - sometimes it’s enough that you have notified them so that it can be recorded on your policy without generating an extra charge, especially if you are able to record this online.

We are with Staysure and I contacted them online after my hospital stay for sodium deficiency but couldn’t find anything on their list of health conditions that matched mine. I expected to pay extra for having to go through one of their operatives but he was able to see that I’d tried to deal with it myself and kindly waived the fee!

Good luck!

You really need to ask your insurers. I’ve only recently been renewing our travel insurance and many state they won’t cover for any conditions that are currently undiagnosed but under investigation ……..hope that makes sense.
Any adjustment to the premium is bound to be in their favour too as they’ll always consider worse case scenario, even for minor conditions and it’s important to remember that the insurers are a business, not medical professionals.

They will still likely insure you but with with an added 0remium as your DP is now under investigations

Did he already have the complaint before taking out the insurance? If he had, or was waiting for a scan (you will have already told the insurance).
If you already had the insurance it’s classed as a new complaint & shouldn’t affect your insurance, but tell them anyway to be on the safe side.
I took out annual insurance last year, then went on a statin after, I rang my insurance, they said it didn’t affect my insurance, just to mention the statin next time I take out insurance.

Better to ring & talk to a person, than go online.

Yes speak to them. I had issues with mine last year "Stay sure" when I told them I was due to have a Cardiac Ablation (to stop my intermittent AF) 6 weeks after our planned trip to Boston, it was a day case. They refused cover , then cancelled my Insurance.
I had to find another one via (BIBA who will find one for you ) luckily they found one for me, "Allclear" who did it straight away, expensive but I needed it, I added my DH to it too.

I just had my renewal in with 20% off for both my DH world wide covet over £1300...gulp!
I falsely assumed my Bank insurance cover, wouldn't cover me... Wrong.. yesterday I phoned them. We went through my Health History and they covered me with an extra payment of £135 for a year world wide cover.
It's a total mystery how they all assess cover.
So it's well worth if you have any issues, and your bank covers you, ring them. If they load you it will be considerably cheaper.
